The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game

The city is plagued by Black Death. Can you, Augustin the bagpiper, give the people some comfort in these hard times?

"Oh du lieber Augustin" is a Viennese folk song that is said to originate from the Great Plague in 1679. This game tells (very loosely) the story of its creation.

Having grown up in Austria, I am very familiar with the legend of Augustin. Even more I was happy about this lovely discovery, the characters are nicely done.

What a lovely historic miniature! Nicely written, technically well done by cat (runs super on my Linux/Wine), and vested with wonderfully coloured costumes and high-res animations by Creamy.

What makes this MAGS game really shine is it's source of inspiration: The light melody dealing with death is still well-known after centuries, even here where I live. So the interpreter Raeff is standing now in the best Viennese tradition (Schubert, Hofmannsthal, etc.). Bravo!

This short game is amazing! I especially love the bagpipes/violin piece (great job Raeff!). The animations are charming and the unexpected turn is great! The puzzles are fun and are just enough to keep the player busy while the story unfolds. And what a nice little story it is!

I would love to see this game fully-voiced at some point with some good singers to fully recreate the medeval musical mood.
