The Rumpus Room / Re: Happy Birthday Thread!

Now that's how you spend a birthday!  Happy belated birthday and rock on fellow fan of naming girls in games "Anna."

Haha, I read that as a kid!  Loved the game, wanted to live in that world some more and somehow came across the novelization.  I remember reading it and loving it but then looking at the book again a few years later, skimming through it and finding it terribly written and wondering what I liked about it as a kid.  (Still love the game for the atmosphere if nothing else!)  I then sold it to a used book store.  HEY!  You may have my copy!

Aww man, Dark Eye!  I loved that game.  I would love to get my hands on a copy of that now and play it through again!  The claymation style was so kickass.

For those who haven't played, you play through several Edgar Allen Poe stories from various vantage points.  So you play the Cask of Amontillado from the point of view of the bricker and the brickee.  Likewise the Telltale Heart.

Great game!

Umm... Lurk mode off?  :D

Do I need to make a "Hi guys, you may not remember me, but I use to visit this forum" thread?

Hundreds of games made by the same game engine with a fairly narrow set of built-in game mechanics has produced a large number of games that are "generic" in the sense that they largely conform to those game mechanics (with of course, lots of exceptions).  But the longevity and continued productivity of the community is evidence that these games are imbued with a great deal of creativity and uniqueness.  If all the games were generic and samey in terms of storyline, atmosphere, graphics, puzzles, sound, etc., the community would never have lasted this long.

I'd say that the current crop of commercial adventure games is more of an example of a "throng of generic point-and-click adventure games."

Still, aside from that little backhanded comment at the end, nice review!

Oh, cool!  I'll speak up next time!

Ok, it looked like it cut broadcast at some point, but I kept going for like five minutes... Did people see the maze part?

Anywho.  that was fun.  There were about 28 watchers at it's peak, so that was cool!  Might do it again some time (though obviously, watching some dude code isn't terribly exciting!)  I've got to give my son lunch, but I'll post a couple new screen shots later today!

Alright, I'm going to work on the game for a bit here and live stream while working.  I'll chat while it's going on as well if there's anyone interested enough to watch.  Not sure if there will be.  This is just a little experiment!  I'll post some new screenshots in a bit!

Live stream here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/resonance-dev

Ok, yeah, that was kind of a mean April Fool's joke.  (And trust me, Snarky, the metaphor was not lost on me!)  Thanks for playing along everybody!  And sorry to the few people who I confused!

To make up for it, I'm going to be posting some screenshots and Live Streaming a couple hours of development (assuming I can figure out how to do it... I've never done that before.)  I'll be starting that in about two hours, when my wife leaves the house!  So if watching a guy use Photoshop and code is your thing, you're in luck.

Some sneaks will definitely be peaked, y'all.

I really enjoyed the ceremony as well!  Congratulations to all the winners and a huge thank you to the people who put that thing together!  Very very cool!

This community puts out a remarkable amount of quality games every year and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon!  Yay!  clap clap clap lesbians clap

If it's wrong, then I don't want to be right.

This thread has taken a rather weird turn the last couple pages hasn't it?  What were we talking about?  Oh yeah.  Congrats to all the nominees!  I look forward to the upcoming mortal combat which is traditionally used to decide the winner of each category as far as I care to remember.

When possible, could we get this updated with the most recently expired world.  I never took any screenies of my creature.   ;D

Ooh!  For your consideration:

∞ bit

(The first one, with the broken character encoding  :P)

In the categories of:

Best programming
Full platforming engine!  Two gameplay modes!  Particle effects!  Flashing stuff!  Mappy support!  Floaty physics!  Questionable collision detection!  Shoot stuff!  Math!!!  Open source!

Best non-adventure
Six levels of very-challenging fun, each adding new gameplay twists!  Interspersed with sometimes hair-pullingly difficult flight sequences!

They were intended to keep monsters off the spawn chunk and be complimented with some doored bridges on each side, but some creepers (who apparently can destroy spawn blocks and I can't rebuild them!) hindered my progress and made it possible for monsters to climb up there.  Bastards.
