OH MY GOD I WAS RIGHT!  It is the Slender Man!  You realize that you just got so much more awesome in my book, right WHAM?

It isn't so much a movie as much as a series of videos, but still.  http://www.youtube.com/user/MarbleHornets

I was asking for critique as well.  I was implying that if they didn't have any critique for it, to just enjoy it.  *shrugs*  Whatever the mods decide though, I guess.

I don't understand what's happening.

I'm trying to make a game with an occult aspect.  In order for me to do that, I have to create the mythos of the religion that will be the center point of the game.  This is essentially the "bible" for that religion.  I just need an idea of how to get a nice flow with the wording and ideas as to what the followers could have done or how they were persecuted or anything.

Critics' Lounge / From the Book of The Teacher

In my attempt to make my new game, I came up with the idea of an elder deity who's followers gain absolute knowledge.  There is a cost to that, but in the sense of the wording, it is absolutely true to gaining knowledge.  I'm trying to get a decent hold on the early texts of the teacher, the ones that would bring followers into the faith.

An excerpt from the Book of The Teacher

"May he who desires knowledge come to me and learn through me.  Let his mind expand and his thoughts flow.  Let those who learn from me go and tell others of the gift they have received."

The Enlightened Ones knew the will of The Teacher.  They spread through the land to teach the men of ignorance.  The men of ignorance did not take kindly to the Enlightened Ones.  They were persecuted, for they did not understand.  They hated, because they did not understand.

For some reason this early stuff gives me a hard time writing it.  I've got the more meaty stuff, what happens to someone when they become an Enlightened One.  The ending of the Book of The Teacher is still rough as well.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Re: AGS moods

I tend to agree with you, Dom.  When I was playing some more goofy games and it was nice and bright and enjoying the day, I had the urge to make a humor game.  When I was enjoying a darker series of games, in turn, I wanted to make a darker game.  The mood and the mindset I am in majorly affects what I want to create.

I'm the kind of guy who watches LP's for a good laugh most of the time.  So here are some rather choice playlists that make me either lose it or I just enjoy quite a bit.

Tatsudoshi - Goof Troop

Tatsudoshi - Battle Circuit

Deceased Crab - Panic Restaurant

I think that'll do for this list.

Your topic is specifically about your LP work though. This would cover Let's plays in general, especially the gems people may have found digging through the dirt.

Gotcha. Well, I'm at work right now, but I have a whole boat load of LP's that I would love to share with all of you.

I started a thread like this over in the Critic's Lounge, but I suppose this would be a better place to put it.

I'm a bit curious about that picture of a man standing in blood :o

It reminds me of both The Slender Man or The Prince from the Chzo mythos games.

I don't mind the hijack, WHAM.  I'm happy to support other LPers.  And honestly, I'm not sure what I was looking for in a critique either... maybe whether my style was interesting, what people thought of the games, that sort of thing.  Mainly I just wanted to see if people enjoyed it.

Hey folks,

Before I got interested in this site, I did some youtube videos called "Let's Plays."  Essentially, it's me playing games and making commentary on them.  It's quite a wide spread thing on youtube.  I figured I'd just pop this on here and see if you guys find it entertaining.

Sounds like we might need a sump pump...  Or a raft.  That would be an interesting way to travel around the facility.

Don't know if this is here, but Nikola Tesla demands that I put this here!

Not the most manly thing for me to be doing, but it was cool.  Also, god I look like I'm 16... I'm 21!  I swear!

Hey folks, Hemlock here,

I'm obviously a bit of newbie around here, but I'm determined to get my game off the ground, no skimping.  The only problem is, I don't have the artistic talent to bring those images to life.  But more on that later.  For now, here is the game.

You heard the rumors about the mansion.  Screams at night, the flickering lights, the unearthly howls.  So what made you go there in the first place?  Was it the envelope that arrived at your doorstep?  Was it the weeping widow that hired you to investigate?  Or was it the pull at your soul, that tug on your very being towards that place, that drove you to the predicament that you're in?  There's only one way to get out... and that's to keep going in...

For those of you who read this before and wondered why it's different (which I assume is a grand total of no one) I got an epiphany when I was at work, and the story, the setting, and the ideas in my head just made me want to change this into a horror style, more serious vein of a game.  This allowed me to jump much deeper into the story, the plot, and the writings of the mythos within.  This WILL be done, come hell or high water.

I've also got quite a few interesting play style changes that you don't see very much of in an adventure game.  I'm integrating a "if you don't need it, you can't pick it up" method of item collection.  This will eliminate the continual item hoarding that always seems to occur.  Not only that, when and if you need to go back to a room to find something, this will give the game an opportunity to open the player's eyes to more story.  Another thing I'm going to try to do, which isn't so much unheard of in the adventure genre as much as it is in the modern day horror, is to go for a no or little blood scenario.  You see all of the gore and filth through all the modern movies.  But why?  I want to create that creeping fear that you get without having to see nothing but blood and guts everywhere.  Granted I may have to throw it in every now and then for a few suspense aspects, but it's in no way going to be a center point.

So you're thinking, what do I get from working with this new guy?  You'll get a scripter who is willing to take an idea or concept and work on the code over and over and over until it works perfectly.  Because practice makes perfect, but obsession makes better.

Now, for those of you who are still interested, here are the kinds of people I would love to have join me on this project.

1.  An artist for sprites.  I'm going for the lo-res style.  Nice and dark and gritty.  I'm

2.  A similarly styled artist for backgrounds.

3.  An animator, unless applicants 1 and/or 2 want to take care of that as well.

4.  Someone to do the sprites for the inventory items as well.

I know I'm asking a lot considering I don't have much to show for it, but I'm willing to take all the time it takes to make this work.  I'm not going to release a shoddy project, I want something that people will enjoy.  Just let me know at browndj3@gmail.com or just shoot me a PM here.  Thanks!

Hey folks, Hemlock here.

I'm new to the whole AGS world.  I've been poking around, and have decided to work on a project, but more on that later.  I'm a long time gamer of many genre, especially adventure games.  I lost contact with them for quite a while, but got back into them when I found this site.

For a little while, I've been working on Let's Play videos on youtube, but with my college schedule and my 30 or so hours of work, it's getting harder and harder to take the time and record and edit it.  I finished quite a few series, though, so if you're interested, check out the link near the end of this post.

I'm a 21 year old CIS major college student, which means I'm willing to sit through and read lines and lines of code and scripts until I understand it and can use it without any problem.  I'm will fix a problem, even if it has to take me some time.  I guess that just says I'm a big nerd, but I'm proud to be one.

I'm sure there have been plenty of people that say they are willing to take the time to create a game, they jump into the program, get discouraged, and give up.  I'm hoping to overcome that.  I've been carrying a notebook with me wherever I go writing down my story, my puzzle ideas, my characters, my rough (VERY rough) sketches for my characters and rooms.  I'm willing to take as much time as I can to get the design right as I try to poke around and learn the scripting.  Here is where I know I'm going to have the biggest problems.  I can't draw.  I am artistically impaired.  I know I'll need help, I just don't know how I would get that help.  I know I'm sure I'll hear practice makes perfect, and I'm willing to try, but man... I make stick figures look bad.

But enough of me being all griefy on myself.  I don't have enough done to put this in the "In-Production" forum, so I don't really have a place to let people know about my game...  Let me at least tell you this, it's a humorous game using a Monkey Island style of art and humor.  It involves a crazy mad scientist, his mansion, and a test subject trying to get out.  If anyone is even slightly interested, let me know!

Oh yeah, and here's the link to that youtube channel.

I'll see you folks on the threads.
