Hahaha, I understand. I've been working really hard lately and my girlfriend's not having fun with it. =\ Well, hopefully things work out!

Hey Fitz!

Since Game Jolt supports many different genres, creation tools, and technologies, we always try to keep the themes loose enough so that it's just a base for creativity to build on top of. So, definitely no genre-specific stuff. And I'd really love to see more adventure games submitted this contest! I'm definitely a fan of 'em, having grown up playing them, and don't feel like I see enough in jams and contests. Glad to see you'll be participating. And hopefully more people will. =]

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that we're holding another contest! If you don't already, you should know that it's possibly the most fun you could have as a game creator. Or, maybe not. It's hard to know.

Anyways, we'll be getting together (through the power of the interwebs) to make games, livestream development, chat it up, meet people, and hang out.

It'll start on November 9, 2013 at midnight Eastern Time EST (US) and end at midnight Eastern Time on November 18, 2013. The theme will be announced at the start of the contest.

We'd love to get some adventure games in on the fun as well! I feel like I don't see a lot of them in jams and contests.

We've got a huge prize pack as well for the top three entries! Here's a little teaser of all the games you can win:

Check out the contest page for more info on it. Hope to see you there! Feel free to ask questions anywhere. I'll try to answer them.

Howdy everyone that makes up the AGS community! It's been a while (way too long, way too long) since I last posted anything here, however just wanted to let you all know that we are starting a new contest! Woooo! I don't really know what to say besides this'll probably be the most fun you'll have all Summer -- or maybe not. ???

In case you're new to how Game Jolt contests work, it's pretty much like this: We get together (through the power of the interwebs) to make games, live stream as we develop, chat it up, and hang out. There'll be prizes, featured games, and hopefully some Good Ol' Fashioned Fun Time(tm).

Not just that, but we built out a whole new page just for contests! It'll allow us to connect our live stream accounts, tweet about the contest, and see everything that everybody is doing, all in a nice activity feed.

I wanted to be sure you guys knew because I remember how supportive everyone was when Game Jolt initially launched over 3 years ago. We'd all love to have some Adventure games submitted.

Hope to see you guys there. If not, I guess I'll see you here.  (nod)

All right, guys. I'll be working on this plugin soon, then. First I have to get the MMF2 one done. I'll probably just release the code once it's done in case anyone wants to add to it.
#6
Nice! Seems like there's some interest. I'll try to get working on it, then.

Have any of you worked with AGS plugins?
#7
Yeah, HTTP requests. I remember it not supporting internet access from me asking before, so I'd be willing to make an actual Game Jolt Achievements Plugin using C++ to work with the system, if there's interest.

My guess is that it'd most likely be spots in the story that you get them. Like, after certain story points. Many games actually do stuff like this, rather than making you kill 25 trolls, or something weird. This would be some incentive to actually play through your game fully. Also, perhaps trophies for side quests, could be interesting. Or, maybe more interesting would be to give certain trophies depending on how the user interacts with the story (dialogue choices, etc).

Trophies in adventure games would take thought, but I think it could actually be done in a way that would support the game, rather than just be stupid.

Hey everyone,

CROS from Game Jolt here. Not sure if any of you remember me, but I posted at the beginning of the year a bit about Game Jolt and had some community support from you guys, which was great. Just wanted to let you know that we've been busy at work on a new tool for game developers: achievements (trophies, highscores, etc).

The goal is to create an achievements system that works with as many platforms as possible while still being extremely easy to use. We currently just launched it as a closed beta and are looking for some interested devs to test the system out and write tools to work with it. If any of you guys would be interested in having trophies in AGS, I could spend some time writing up a plugin.

There's some more information, as well as information on how to get into the closed beta, here: http://gamejolt.com/developers/achievements/

What do you guys think?

Hey everyone! This is CROS from Game Jolt (http://gamejolt.com).

Some of you may have already heard about Game Jolt's plans regarding an Ad Revenue Sharing system for developers. We're extremely excited to finally announce that the closed beta is now starting! We've posted more information on the site to hopefully answer all the questions you may have.

More information on how Ad Revenue Sharing will work can be found at:
http://gamejolt.com/developers/ad-sharing/

That's not all, though. To kick off the beta we're going to be running a game making contest! Three winners will be picked, all of which will be immediately accepted into the closed beta of the Ad Revenue Sharing system as well as have their games featured on the front page of the site. A first place winner will also receive a free single game from Steam (no packs)!

More information on the contest (rules and such) can be found at:
http://gamejolt.com/community/forums/topics/our-first-contest/11/

We're totally psyched to finally get the Ad Revenue Sharing system rolling and closer to being ready for the public, and we hope to see lots of great contest entries as well.

Hope to see you there!

Hey there,

Nice game you got there. I was impressed. Pretty funny to get a flash game from the AGS forum.

The reason there's margins is because the chatroom will eventually be popped in the right side of the flash game. This way people can chat while playing. It does go based off of the aspect ratio of the game, but if we let users set the site, we'd have a hard time designing around it.

As for more details about the revenue sharing, we'll be releasing more information on the rates and payment options and what not when the closed beta launches. You should expect more information hopefully within a few weeks.

To give you an example for now, though, I Wanna Be The Guy, which gets a fair amount of visitors since it's a popular game, would probably be getting around $5-10 a month. These revenues WILL go up the more people use the site. Since it's fairly small right now, we can't haggle for great prices. The more it grows, the better prices we will be able to negotiate with ad networks.

Glad you signed up. If you've got any other games, be sure to stick them up.

By the way, this isn't the only way we plan to give back to the developers. Just a place to start. Be sure to check back often, or sign up for the newsletter.

Hey guys, it's been a while. This is CROS from Game Jolt.

Just wanted to keep you updated with some new developments on the site. While we've hinted at it in the past, we're finally revealing some information on Ad Revenue Sharing on Game Jolt. This has usually been reserved for just Flash/casual games, but in our long fight to rid the world of greedy publishers, here ya go!

Tell us what you think.

The party doesn't start without you, Trihan.  :D

Haha, I didn't know people were watching the site so intently. This was a misconfiguration with the server. Our emails were getting listed as spam, so I did some fixing up of the DNS entries on the server. It just so happened that Game Jolt got messed up and started redirecting to Legato, which is an Open Source framework that I work on. It used to be the Lucent Web Framework, but is in the middle of rebranding to Legato. It's what Game Jolt is built on top of. One of the reasons the site is so fast, I daresay.  ;)

And, yes, my name is David DeCarmine. I'm the lead developer of Game Jolt.

I'm really sorry for the downtime, guys. This was completely accidental and was fixed as soon as I noticed it this morning. Let me know if things are still messed up for anyone.

By the way, as a little note: You can now set a maturity rating for your game, and it will use the TIGRS rating system. By the end of the week there should be functionality there for you to then embed an automatically generated image of your TIGRS rating to your site.

Also, by the end of the week we plan on having video uploading for games. We currently allow you to link to YouTube and Vimeo videos, but we will actually be rolling out our own video hosting solution, in full 640x480 glory! The quality of the uploaded videos is actually pretty amazing. Users will also be able to upload videos for your game in a user-media section. This way they can upload play-throughs, speed runs, walkthroughs, reviews, etc...

Looking forward to your games, LimpingFish!

Snake, I authorized your account for you. I'm going to check into why the emails are taking so long to send out some times. Hope everything is smooth sailing from here on out.

Hey guys, I figured I'd give you an update as to the new developments with the site.

First off, ProgZMax's estimation was sadly off. Not many sign ups from this forum, yet.  :'(

As to some new features on the site:

New file mirroring service where Game Jolt will mirror a URL you enter, updating the file on our server whenever the file on the URL changes. The files are stilled served from our server, so you don't have to worry about bandwidth.

Developers now have their own blogs!

RSS/Atom feeds for all the news sections on the site.

More detailed statistics for profile views, files, news articles, comments, etc. in the developer's dashboard.

You can now add soundtracks for your game. The songs from the soundtrack are streamable from your game's main page. The site also automatically zips up the soundtrack for easy distribution. You can check this feature out at Merry Christmas, Alfred Robins page:
http://gamejolt.com/games/adventure/merry-christmas-alfred-robbins/3/

Gamers now have profiles, so you can see who exactly is viewing/rating/commenting/downloading your games.

We also moved to a much better server just to keep things running smoothly.

Hope everyone likes the new stuff!

Definitely release a soundtrack for the game! Be sure to put it up on Game Jolt, too.  ;)

Yup, HillBilly, that was it.

After finishing it... dang, man.

I've done the whole safe thing correctly, but I can't seem to do what Frodo was talking about.

Spoiler
I can pull the blanket over him. He talks about the cat (did it die or soemthing), but then nothing else happens. I've tried clicking all around his bed, under it and everything, but still nothing.

I'm not sure how you guys were able to proceed any further. I'm having the same problems as Leon. It seems like I can't proceed any further.

Spoiler
I can get get so far as to put the santa claus back together with the glue. I used to be able to use his shaving brush with the red nail polish to then paint the santa, but it won't let me do that anymore. And I can't grab the green hair clip from his wife. Anyone have any hints? Am I doing something wrong?
