The Rumpus Room / Re: I'M the boss!

Follow your dream. I also recently followed mine by quitting my job last weekend and going to college for programming. I was in a team leader position of a forging department. Actually shortly before I gave my notice, they had an open position for assistant manager of forging. I didn't even apply for it. I didn't want it to pull me away from the direction I was aiming. Also I would have no idea what to say in a 3 hour interview, so that's pretty impressive.

I will have quit my good paying job to go to school. I start Jan 15. Follow your dreams they say.

I'm watching, and loving, The Orville to get my Star Trek fix because there's no Star Trek show on right now as far as I'm concerned.
I'm a bit disappointed in Discovery as well. I don't like the "spores" for instantaneous travel or the use of an alien species as a super computer mapping the stars. It doesn't feel like a science fiction show at all, more like a science fantasy show. Then there's the 1000 light year mind meld - So does that mean Vulcan's have sub space (faster than light) communication and that humans are capable of receiving this? I feel it's trying to do what Stargate Universe did with the communication stones that would transfer the conscience of the people holding the stones on each end of the universe. It allowed them to speak to earth, but prevented the show from having that Voyager feeling of being alone.

I also thought the introduction to Captain Lorca was mirroring that of the poor introduction to Captain Picard, with "I don't like children" vs Lorca's "I have light sensitivity". WTF.

Edit: Oh right and I forgot to say but Orville IS awesome. Has its weak moments where it could have been funnier, joke opportunities that were missed etc. It feels very Galaxy Quest which I absolutely loved more than any Star Trek movie.

Oh. Now I feel stupid. I completely forgot that next week is when my work schedule is changing from a Mon to Fri work weeks, back to a continental shift due to demand. Which means I will have this Mon, Tues and Fri off (edit: by "this" I mean next week's). Hmmm

Welcome to my neck of the woods!

I certainly would love an AGS get together, but alas, I'll be working afternoon shift that week (2:45pm to 11pm). It's also a 2 hour drive from Toronto to my work, so it's very unlikely I would meet up before then. I also can't take any vacation time as I'll be quitting my job and going to college in Jan, and finances will be very very tight.

I wish you guys all the best, have a great time and have some poutine for me!

There is a possibility, however, that America will be better off after his presidency, because people will be mobilized to prevent something like this from happening again.  Until we again become complacent...
It's funny because I often wonder if the *best* thing for America is Trump. Not Trump himself though (obviously). Where he has indirectly shown us what's wrong with that country and what needs to be fixed. Before Trump, did the world know how rough of shape that country was in? The people seem immensely divided.

When I watch the buffoon's speeches, a small part of me wonders if he's playing the role of the fool to help unite everyone against what's broken; shine some light on the creeps who have been hiding in the shadows. But who am I kidding. lol

Wow. That was indeed quite the blast from the past. It surprised me at how fresh everything felt with the lengthy amount of time that I had been away from it. At the time I remember having looked at everything with bored eyes after having seen and read everything a thousand and more times; which is what you hear often from developers who get bored of their work and lose sight of how amazing it actually is. Dave and Daniel (and everyone else), thank you for reminding me of how fantastic this really and truly was. The art is fantastic, and the writing I truly smiled and laughed with. Many scenes with an "Oh I forgot all about this!" and seeing again many of the ideas I had that you guys both finely crafted and brought to life. :P

I'll admit it starts to fall apart a little after about the halfway point with multiple things missing in dialogs that you expect to be there, some hints that are missing and some hints that are too obvious, and other such issues (which could easily be remedied if the project were to be continued). But overall: one hell of a demo! The music and sound effects were also quite fantastic.

I apologize for having gone though a bad period in my life back then (got terminated shortly after the family business was sold, and other stuff). My mind went into a dark period. I'm sorry for having stagnated my later involvement to the point of requiring a replacement. That is certainly something I look upon now with some disappointment. Anyway, thanks for letting me play this again. I truly appreciated it.

I thought it had looked like the scene where the Dr returns home. (Also didn't know Carrie Fisher was in it - been so long since I've seen this movie)

Here's to keep with the pre 21st century movies:

Alright I feel greedy as sin, but I've been eager to play Surgeon Simulator 2013 ever since I am Bread became popular (and my younger years of playing QWOP (laugh)). Please and thank-you Keyman!
Also nobody seems to like the games R through T.

I've only played 1/5 so far (the Halloween key giveaway I got 2 and now I've gotten 3 from the KEY-mas) which was Planetary Annihilation. It is quite enjoyable so far. Very easy so far with the intro levels, which I assume and hope will become more advanced later. And with awesome music. I am exceedingly more likely to play games given to me, out of a sense of guilt if I don't play them I suppose, than I would with games I purchased on my own.

I was busy as sin lately trying to finish building my deck before the snow flies, but looking outside now there's about a foot of snow on it. And I was so dang close to finishing it! :~( It'll have to wait until spring now. Bring on the game playing!

Edit:

I'm just gonna line up here for some more Christmas greed (joy) and kindly ask for Mirror's Edge, as so many of you fine folk have strongly praised it over the years. Please and thank-you Fishman!
Good thing I've got me a whole week off during Christmas, you've already attributed to 6.5% of my library (with just the 4 games lol).

Thanks yet again for more FREE games, SantaFish! It's downloading as I type. 8-)
I'm absolutely shocked that no one has been asking for FTL (Faster than light). Come on guys - it's an amazing game! Unless everyone in here has already played it, which I can believe.

If I could snag some more Christmas cheer, I've been eyeing up Evoland for quite some time. Please and thank-you Mr Fish.

10 years? No you haven't.... Oh you have indeed!
Which means apparently I've been on this forum for 9 years this month. What happened? I had so many goals and dreams... and all I made was Road Racer. lol

Are you working with Unity now?
#17
Well SantaFish, you've apparently done it again and you've ADDED more! (nod)

I've been super busy lately but my god, I'd find some time for: Planetary Annihilation!!!!  ;)

[Trump] sounds, as usual, like he has no real idea what he's talking about [..]
He has my vote! (roll)

Anyway you keep speaking of how Hillary was more evil than Trump, care to elaborate without the "9mm vs Star Wars pistol" analogies? Was it just a gut feeling, that sinister smirk of hers? It can't be about money or hunger for power - because that's also Trump. For instance, if  I recall correctly, the drone strikes are so far the only evil thing you've denounced. Yet Trump openly saying he'll kill the families of terrorists, or his potential use of nukes, is (for some reason) a more acceptable strategy. With Trump you were never left to guess what kind of person he was or what he opposed, as he couldn't keep his thoughts to himself, regardless of how sinister and barbaric or completely false they were, he openly expressed it. Anyway I believe I'm through initial shock of this "Trumpageddon" and so the anger has subsided, now instead of directing hatred towards Trump supporters, it's now pity.

And, yes, my opinion of America has dropped. About thirty states worth.
I agree. Even though I'm Canadian, I'm still terrified by all of this.

This is my prediction (which I honestly hope I'm wrong about), assuming he actually makes it into the whitehouse before either being assassinated or stepping down: Trump will be known as the worst president in the history of USA
