Hey guys. Been awhile. As some may know I never got to complete my game "lollys adventure" due to computer completely dying on me. I started from scratch and I'm close to finishing again. Until I ran into a problem... My game has an "arcade" level and I managed to make it a platform style game for this level with coins to collect and chests to unlock. My problem tho is I am using objects as an enemy to travel left and right, and I'm trying to create a bump effect when the player gets near it, except the bump sort of works unless the player is completely still. Even after adding a blockingwidth to the object and making it solid. Also another problem is that I want to defeat the enemy so I have a "sword slice" animation the player does when Z is pressed but the enemy/object doesn't disappear when player collides with object during that animation. PS sorry for the long post.

Posting for a friend. He is using Bernie's simple platform movement v0.1 and he has run into two problems.

1) the character/player doesn't animate when walking
2) he can only jump onto one platform but when he tries to jump again on the new platform nothing happens.

His also not sure whether this module is really old or not because it's the only one he could find at the time.

[EDIT] I found an old thread(not easy to find threads for this module) and it explained how to fix the animation part. So only the jump problem to solve.

Just a wild guess, but if you think your computer can't follow up with the data, try running winsetup and setup the sprite cache to 100Mb. Has helped me once to play a game I was unable to with the default of 20Mb.

That actually helped it to run much smoothly! Thank you a million.

Ok so I've come to the conclusion that it might be my laptop that's causing this problem since I've undid everything new that might have caused the problem(after making a back up).  So I decided to compile it and try on a different laptop and it working much better, still a slight delay during the night and day transition but not so bad that it will make a person want to quit the game. Hopefully I can figure out the real problem soon.

Ah I see. Well I've narrowed it down to two rooms I'm which my game slowsdown and it's only during the day night transition. It never did this problem before so now checking what I did in those rooms recently and also checking my repeadely_execute in both rooms plus global.

Ps I wish someone corrected me about the term Lag along time ago. I've been using the word wrong 90% of the time haha.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Lag issue.

What would cause a game to lag? It's never done it before till yesterday. Could having too many things in a room make it lag? Or is my laptop starting to slow down because the game is "growing" in size?

Managed to solve the lost two issues after a bunch of trial and error. Everything is finally working :-D

Ok, so I managed to remove the puzzle with the Jigsaw.RemovePuzzle() command and a change to previous room after it. Only problem now is that my objects like doors, keys and painting have all disappeared.

1) sound doesn't play because when I try run the game an error pops up saying "Undefined token, 'PlaySound'" on every line that has PlaySound in it.
The module uses old script commands that were deprecated since AGS 3.2.
Easiest solution is to open General Settings and disable "Backwards Compatibility -> Enforce new style audio scripting".

Thank you, sound works now. Now to figure out the other two.

will try that later tonight. hope it works out.

So I sort of have the jigsaw module working now. Using it to create a "piece together torn paper" puzzle. But I ran into three problems.

1) sound doesn't play because when I try run the game an error pops up saying "Undefined token, 'PlaySound'" on every line that has PlaySound in it.

2)when I'm playing the game I have to click on the screen a few times before the pieces of paper show.

3)how to I end the jigsaw puzzle so that I can interact with hotspots/objects/characters again.

These might be obvious fix but I'm probably just not seeing it.

Ah yes that's the game exactly. Can show my friend now the links to the game trailer. It's strange that he would do something like that, probably just wanted people to notice it maybe? Ow well, none of my business really. But thanks for the links (laugh)

Anyone know what happened to that game that was announced in the "game in production" forum called. "Paranoid days" ? I wanted to show a friend of mine but couldn't find it. Just curious.

I want to release a short demo of my game but I need someone to do a spell check for me in case I've missed something. Also advice on where the game can be improved, because I've got a feeling the game got uninteresting somewhere.
#15
Tried it that it and it's walking around aimlessly perfectly, thanks :-D
#16
Will try this out. Thank you.
#17
Will give that a try later today.

Sort of worked but then I can't look at inventory with the look icon. I think just disabling all the mouse modes except for the look and changing the look icon to a different graphic will do.
#19
Ok so I got a second inventory window working but is it possible to make it so that a player doesn't select the inventory when clicking on it? So if I had this inventory open and I clicked on an item my mouse icon wouldn't change to the item icon or even pick that item up.

Code might not be 100% because I'm typing with a slow phone today.
