Is it possible to make a line a walable area, by this I mean I mean 1 pixel instead of having to make it a filled in rectangle.

Hello me newb.

I'm in a bit of a cuffufle here and need some help.

1. I want to make narrow walkable areas and make the character walk smoothly across the them. Basically whenever my characters come to an edge his walking animation gets stuck for about half a second.

Can I make narrow lines and have a smooth walking character, or is there a script so i can allow just a line to be the walkable area instead of have to make it a filled in rectangle every time?

2. I'm using the old MI 2 template (fixed it for 2.71), I added my own GUI as GUI 11 and want it to come up after the intro credits. But how can I make it come up with closing the current background, at the moment it just overlays it.

I've looked everywhere, how am i meant to know the numbers for the colours i need?

Tell me if you like my game, I've been working on in for the last few days, so it's new in production but i need some opinions.

Especially monkey island fans (even though all are welcome), because i want to know there opinions of the SECRET of monkey island.

The other day i was looking for Monkey Island Sprites, when i stumbled upon a very interesting fact.

The secret of monkey island has never been revealed!

The thing is is the original developer Ron Gilbert did not make monkey island 3 or 4, and was not his story that carried on so a lot of things in number 2 did not add up.

Updates:

  • Fixed mom talking sprites
  • Fixed Guybrush giving/pickingup/showing sprite (shows elaine e ticket)
  • Can skip most text using ESC key
  • Can skip Intro after the Monkey Island Title has appeared using ESC
  • Characters now turn when talking (looks better)
  • Fixed Spelling (what i could find, a lot of lower cased i's)
  • Added some more music
  • Changed the text colour to suite characters (If anyone knows a better text colour for chuckie please tell me and the numbers)
  • Added some more rooms

I want the camera to follow a different character, i looked in help but all i could find was it to move a certain amount of pixles or go to co ordinants.

What i want is it to follow (camera/screen) this other character, then return to it's normal character.

I want to stop text skipping in fact all input from the user.

I tried :
DisableInterface();

but they can still text skip, only guis don't work.

see my problem is is with walking, when the user presses eascape, the character stops walking from A to B.

i don't want to use block either because i want the other function to run while the character is walking:

character[EL].Say("Guybrush!");
character[EL].Walk(149, 111);
character[EGO].Say("Yes it's me my SugarCake");  << still want this to be said while she is walking but without it being able to skip using (esc)


basically: EL finish walking without being able to skip it, but without stopping EGO saying his line while EL walks

I want guybrush to do view 7 loop 1 while saying the text.

This is what i've got:

character[EGO].LockView(7);
character[EGO].Animate(1, 1, 0, eBlock, eBackwards);
character[EGO].Say("Well...");
character[EGO].UnlockView();


He says the text afterwards.

Do i have to change his talking view to his thinking one temporarily?

If you import a background image which is in .gif format, it crashes ags :o, i tried it on several different games. :P

(Exception 0x00000000 at EIP=0x00000000, AGSEDIT v2.70.601, SIP=26)


Doesn't look like a very good crash error to me, but what am i to say, i can't program.

So my game is about revealing the secret of monkey island, by using various theroies currently out and my own. (Kids imagination is a big one)

I was really gonna do this on my own, but because there are alot of monkey island fans out there, i thought maybe they would like to contribute they're ideas and work, and choose which theory is most suited.

Hi this is in my rep_ex:

Now i want SetTimer 2 function to continue throughout the script even when it waits 400 cycles before the next function processes, but it stops as soon as i put that Wait in there so how can i change the code?

I'm using this :

object[0].Move(0, 67, 1, eBlock);

but need it to go slower.

I've been trying to make my character walk to a hotspot on my intro, but i can only make them walk to the codinants and nothing happens.

I need walk to and not when player stands on, because i want them to walk off the screen, and the only way i know how to do that is using >er on the hotspots name.

1. If someone can tell me how to use the walkto or use command on a hotspot in script

OR

2. Tell me how to use the >er(exit)(right) command in script so the character goes off the screen



PS. How do i turn txt spelling off

I am using the MI2 template in ags v 2.7 and i already get and error when i haven't changed anything.

The error: (line 221) "gui" is a global var; cannot use name for local

My guess here as a n00b, is that in ags 2.7 they've made gui a built in variable or something, so you can't have the same name as it.

But i'm not sure how to correct this, plus that means the MI2 Template is incompatible with the new ags until you edit the script.

Any help would be great. :)

Hi i'm using the MI2 template, i've basically been learning most of the script stuff by looking through it and tutorials, but i'm now stuck.

The command "give" or "talk to" doesn't reconise the object, only all the other commnds do.

for eg. "Pickup Banana" // This one does display the object when its over it
           "Talkto              " // This one doesn't display the object when its over it

Any help?

You might notice in the script that the phrase i want to use is "It is impossible to strike up an intelligent conversation with an inanimate object"

I want to use sonic the hedgehog sprites, but don't want to use up and down ones.

I want it so if he goes down and the direction he's going is left, that is displays the left loop, or if hes going up and rigt, it just displays the right loop.

I get errors when he goes directly up or down, can anyone help me with this without actually putting sprites in the loop but instead him using a left or right sprite?

I may one day want to make commercial games, but if so i want to avoid all the copyright laws and stuff.

1. i see theres a windows download for AGS with no mp3 support for mp3-licence mix ups, but what if i want to make my music in mp3, my own music, are there still mp3 licences i have to agree and pay a little contribution for?

2. the same with general midi's, is there a licence i have to agree with to use them in a commecial game

3. font's, what font's am i allowed to use, i just want the standard font, it that totally free, can i use it for commercial use

4. and user written plug in's can i use them, without getting mixed up with any law suits, am i allowed to use them without paying a fee to use them?

5. also how can i find out if a name, like a games company name is copyrighted?

6. and any other disputes

With them templates that were made, you know the FOA, DOTT, and MI2 ones. How do you get the menu up, becuase when i press f1, it only says who it was created by. Also is there anyway to import the gui into to a game your currently making, then having to start a new one, and import all the sprites back in one by one.
