General Discussion / Re: Trumpmageddon

Quote from: BHIOU on Tue 15/04/2025 11:30:22Honestly, with Trump, I expect a mix of media chaos and unexpected decisions.
It could boost the economy as much as rekindle tensions.
The political climate is going to remain hyper-polarized, that's for sure.
But I think a lot of people will stay glued to the news, like a series.
We'll see... popcorn ready!
That kind of comment would probably get a pass around October last year, but unless you were living under a rock for the past three months, you must surely realize that under Trump, people get sent to concentration camps without due process, arrested for using a bathroom or deprived of health care benefits and pension they had relied on to survive. And that's just scratching the surface.

Maybe that's me living in a bubble, but I can't imagine how you could gleefully watch these things happen while stuffing yourself with popcorn, and call yourself a decent person.

All of this took only three months to make? Wow.
Looks fantastic!

Quote from: jfrisby on Thu 03/04/2025 03:45:34Great theme!  Babar and I had our unfinished mags mall game that was first person in a frame that we can maybe finish out of competition or something for this..
Or maybe you could make a new game using parts of the previous code and enter with that one?

Normally, using pre-made modules or templates is allowed and encouraged. In this case, Stu would probably have to make a call on whether it is acceptable to make a new game with a pre-made frame UI, since this month specifically, the code is part of the theme.

Yes! Congrats on the release, now excuse me while I head off to GOG :)

From my side I would like to, firstly, fire Stan, and secondly, thank Dualnames for running and co-hosting the ceremony, as well as all the people who helped us with the awards presentation for the same.

You guys don't even have an idea how much easier you make it for us just by presenting an award or two. Thank you <3

Thanks guys!

@cat , feel free to add to your post above.

Sorry to hear that you won't be able to attend, RootBound! If that helps anything, you can always drop by for a moment and leave anytime you need, or join via IRC.

Last call for presenters and streamers... The ceremony starts in less than 2,5h, so if anyone can help, let me know!

And to publicly answer the question I got in a DM, yes, nominees can be presenters too, as long as you don't present a category you are nominated in.

See you there soon, everyone.

I did add them to the test version, but I indeed cannot see them in the final client, so it is possible that we made the final version from the previous commit.

I'm sorry for this misalignment, but this is also why I ask everyone to send the resources early. The last 2-3 weeks prior to the ceremony are typically reserved for testing and fixes after the nominee content has been added.

Yes, that's normal if you're the first person to join. No worries about that :)

The mirrors have outdated info files, but are otherwise good.
Please let me know if you have any issues downloading.

Quote from: TheVolumeRemote on Sat 22/03/2025 20:14:11I know it's a little late in the game but if you see this in time, I'd be happy to test the Mac client :)
Unfortunately, the latest on Mac is that we haven't been able to get the Mac version to work properly this year :( I hope you and anyone else who has a preference for a Mac client have a backup machine that can run either Win or Linux. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Quote from: Laura Hunt on Sat 22/03/2025 12:51:13One thing I noticed is that the `music_credits.txt` file doesn't seem to have been updated in several years. Since 2021, to be precise. Not sure if it even makes sense to have a list of the tracks from previous years, but the ones for this year should definitely be there. (Unless this has already been take care of for the "real" client, in which case forget I said anything!)
That's a good point. Generally, the main purpose of the avatars and music credits file was to provide licensing information for the open source version of the client, which hasn't been open sourced for a good few years now. There isn't a lot of information to include since I now only ask the Best Music & Sound nominees to (optionally) provide a track, but still, an outdated credits file isn't looking great.

What I can suggest is whitelisting the file in advance in your antivirus program, or Windows Defender if you run it, so that it doesn't quarantine the file. I can make the client available for download on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, so that you have the time to set things up.

This year's client is open for testing! When you have a moment, download the below version, give it a try, click around, see if you can get anything to break. Linux build might need a fix, so I can reupload the Linux version later if someone needs it for testing. Let me know if you want to test with Mac, too.

Please do not use this client for the actual ceremony! There will be a new link provided on Sunday.

We are looking for a streamer (ideally who can also record the ceremony), and as many presenters as we can get. Please let me know here or via PM if you can help :)

Also, we will decide on the ceremony date soon, so remember about the doodle if you haven't voted for a date yet.

When picking your preferred day, keep in mind that the ceremony starts at 20:00 London time (GMT) and will take between 90 and 120 minutes. You can join or leave any time you like, the client is open for the entire duration of the ceremony.

Quoteor maybe your detective just wants to solve the case so he can get back to watching TV with his husband
is the original post example of a game you could very easily make if you don't know how, or are not interested to make a game **about** sexuality and/or gender diversity.

We've had countless MAGS themes as generic as "make a game about kids" or "feature a spoon and a fork", and people would make games about kids, or featuring a spoon and a fork. If you have a concept of how to add a deeper theme-related meaning to your game, go for it. If you don't, just add a gay character and you're done, theme requirements met ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Quote from: Danvzare on Mon 03/03/2025 18:14:45Shouldn't the theme be "LGBTQIA+"?  ???
It seem a bit wrong to leave out the Asexuals. (Especially since there's already a subsection of the LGBTQIA+ community who thinks that they shouldn't be included in the lineup.)
I'm pretty sure there hasn't been any intentional exclusion, and the theme is meant to explore the general subject of gender and sexual diversity.

Only a week and a half left to vote!

Also a reminder - if you are interested to join the ceremony, please consider voting for your preferred date here if you haven't yet:

Thanks for pointing us to the credits page! I would normally use something like "originally by Chris Jones, further developed and maintained by Crimson Wizard and a team of dedicated contributors", but it's a great suggestion to use the full list.
