Messages - The Ivy

Er, hello everyone! I hope I'm in the right forum, it's been a long time since I posted here. Once upon a time I made some AGS games you might have heard of called Spooks, Nanobots, Little Girl in Underland, and Puzzle Bots.

I have a new game called Gravity Ghost - I hope it's cool if I share it here. While it's not an adventure game, it retains a few adventure-y features. It's got a few puzzles, a fully voiced story, and plus the main character carries all the inventory on her person . It'll be released on January 26, and if you want to save $5 you can preorder it at my website. All right, end of shameless plug. It's really cool to see so many familiar names on the forums - how are you guys?

Here are some screenshots:

Hey guys!

I recently emerged from my game development cave to talk to Bytejacker about the game. Check out the episode! We had soooo much fun making it. :)

Also relevant: the episode gives you a coupon code that temporarily knocks the price of the game from $15 down to $10. If you were thinking of getting the game, now's a good time!

(And thanks to everyone for the robot love, I've been following this thread since the get-go. :))

GarageGothic, you're on the "my hero" list from now on. :D

So much attention to detail! And did you put Helena Bonham Carter's face on Mortia? So rad!

MITTALY

I'm interested in going this year, but I'd have to see what my finances are like closer to the date. Going to Italy...that would be quite an expensive date (even if Eric and Esseb were involved).

Hey, that's awesome news! Best of luck finishing this game, it looks amazing.

By the way, it was awesome running into you in Ottawa. Small planet indeed. :)

And YOU are listed too  ;)

QuoteI saw Erin Robinson speak on an independent games panel at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. She gave a hilarious, honest, and compelling presentation about the difficulty of developing independent games and I urge you to support her work.

That made my day when I saw it. :)

Check it!

And someone linked to a bunch of AGS games in the comments section. Extra cool.

In my opinion,  based on what I've read and seen, this game is very much like a hybrid between a casual and adventure game. This is not a bad thing either, as it would appeal to gamers of both groups.

Yep, that is definitely the intention! I've tried to take what I think are the fun elements of adventure games, and eliminated the parts that drive people insane. It'll still be challenging, especially towards the end, but I'm intentionally making the difficulty curve very gentle. And there will be a hint system again. I don't want anybody getting stuck.

Thanks again for all your enthusiasm everyone! I can't help smiling when I read this thread. :) The game's name is indeed final. I purposely chose something "generic" so people would know what the game was about. You play as robots, and you solve puzzles. I suppose it was partly because we hope to draw a wider audience with this game, and if they're unfamiliar with adventure games, this might at least give them an idea what the game is about.

I'm glad so many of you like the GUI. We've changed its design at least twice since the game's inception, and I really like how it turned out. The design was meant to look something like a clanky old carnival ride (something bright coloured, fun, and slightly worn), but other people have told me it reminds them of an Etch-a-sketch or a toaster. Either works for me. :)

Grwooovy Greg won't be making an appearance (this game is basically a Nanobots spinoff with a new IP), but I do plan to tie the two stories together somehow. Example: one of the characters is a graduate of Robo Tech, the lab where Nanobots takes place. There will also probably be some other subtle things in there for the old fans. ;)

Chris (our own Scorposer) is indeed doing the music for the game, aaaaaand it's awesome. :) A great many people have told me they love the track in the trailer, and a lot of them notice the little Mario tribute that's in there. In fact, lots of people comment on the music before they comment on the game. :P

Ben304, a house like that would be amazing. In some of my early sketches it was a sphere, with the bottom half being a sort of basement. I figured that'd be a bit of a risky arrangement though, especially if all the bots tried to move the thing like a hamster ball. In the end I decided on the dome shape, but I couldn't think of a way to fill the top space well. The twisted staircase thing was suggested by Phil Fish, the dude who's making Fez.

Mods, the less said about that robot, the better.

Eggie, REPRESENT!

Radiant, that had better say wooooo (actually I looked it up, thanks muchly. ;)).

And so, with the publication of this trailer, evidence of the game officially exists. :)

Screenshots!

You found the key!

Hero and Ultrabot make a discovery.

Love is in the air. Also, toast.

The bot habitat allows robots to relax in an environment that is both interactive and groovy.

If you are so inclined, you can learn more about the characters, storyline, and, um, poster here at Wadjet Eye Games.

The release is set for Fall 2009, so you shouldn't have to wait too long. :)

It's all about Cheryl Blossom, the only woman who could get Betty and Veronica to put their differences (in hair colour?) aside.
