Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for all your votes. And the winner is... OneDollar for Hole 19 at Captain Greenbeard's Pirate Mini Golf!

A few personal words: A big thank you to the four competitors who contributed wonderful backgrounds. Actually I liked every single background very much. Stylez75's work in the style of early Sierra adventures reminded me of the good old times when I was playing Space Quest and I'd sure like to experience a golf themed adventure in this surroundings. OneDollar surprised me with a very detailed and beautifully crafted minigolf hole and added a background story to create atmosphere. I'd love to know how the story continues... Hannah_Banana had me from the Kiss My Putt pun and delivered an extraordinary golf course in space. I like the colors she used and the many details and funny ideas she included. That little bird fella with the astronaut's helmet is my favourite. Last but not least Newwaveburritos entered with a background that I love simply for the fact that it is in the style of the most beautiful graphic adventure I have ever played: Colonel's Bequest. How great would it be to find a putting green behind a hidden door in the Colonel's mansion?

Well done everybody!

OneDollar, the burden honor of hosting the next Background Blitz is now yours! Good luck!

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for your great work! As the host of this contest, I am very proud of the backgrounds you have made.

We are nowVOTING until the 10th of May! You have one vote for each of these categories:

Concept: What is your background about? What sort of mood does it spark? What is, as it were, the big idea?
Playability: What is its opportunity for gameplay like? Walkable areas, hot-spots, and so forth?
Artistic Execution: How well does the picture convey an atmosphere? How well is it executed?

Here are the entries:

I played it and I completed it. Unexpectedly funny. But it had its lengths. Funny idea and not bad for a game that was made in a week. I hope James Bond will return in... The World Is Not Enough.  ;)

And now let's go pronto to Toronto:-D

Background Blitz - Golf Club

Ladies and gentlemen, it is a great honor to host this round of Background Blitz. Your task, should you decide to accept it, is to draw a part of a golf club.

It can be the golf course, where the golfers play. It can be the pro shop, where they buy their equipment. It can be the driving range, where they practice or it can be the clubhouse, where they get drunk after the round. But make it golfish.

Please submit your entry until the 30th of April.

If there is only one entry, this game will inevitably be the winner, no matter how bad it is, right? I'm asking for a friend...  ;)

Any takers?

I'm already working on an entry and I'm quite confident as to completing it in time.

I've just finished the demo and it looks very good. You've put a lot of effort in the small details (like the wonderful movie posters) and created a great atmosphere. I love how historical facts and persons and fictional events intertwine in your game. Nice graphics and very good use of music in a strange story that's set in the 80ies. I am thrilled to find out how the story evolves.

Spoiler
The movie-within-a-movie beginning is a fun start for your game, I really enjoyed this and wish I could have  played longer as a character of 'Lunatic II'.

Setting the default gui layout to "classic" worked like this:

Code: ags

Verbs.ToogleGuiStyle(0); //sets gui style to classic
sldOptionsStyle.Value = 0 //sets slider for layout in options menu to classic

Many thanks to Khris for pointing me in the right direction.

Is it possible to set the default gui style to "classic"?
In the manual I read about using ToogleGuiStyle to switch between classic and new mode but frankly, I have no idea how to do it...

Beautiful old school graphics, odd characters, good puzzles and a lot of black humour. Great game!

This is awesome. It's great to see Zak repixeled. But unfortunately this is far from a full game, it's more like a demo. Since you already wrote that you won't find the time to complete the game, my suggestion would be that you add only a few more rooms in Zak's street and make a mini adventure with a new storyline. I'd love to play that!

I've played it for about an hour now and I love it!   A great homage to Maniac Mansion with beautiful graphics and outstanding characters.

Quote from: abstauber on Mon 24/04/2017 16:16:30I'm currently rewriting this whole template.
Good news! This is a great template and I'm using it for the game I currently work on, so thank you once again for maintaining it.

Are you rewriting it for better compatibility with newer versions of AGS or are you implementing new features? I'm asking because a "Keep-left-mouse-button-pressed-to-keep-character-walking" feature as seen in Thimbleweed Park would be really cool ;)

This is an awesome template. Plus it's still getting updated by abstauber, that's very important.

Is there an easy way to change the default language? I want to write all text and dialogue in German while coding the game and add an English translation later. I'm not an expert with AGS. I understand I could replace all the GUI sprites and English lines in the Globalscript to German, but is there an easier way? Like switching a single variable for example? :) Thanks in advance!

Version 1.2 has an improved translation at the Maniac Mansion Mania site.
Thanks! The download in the first post links to the newest version 1.2.

You can now play Maniac On The Mississippi in ITALIAN language! Maniac on the Mississippi ora è disponibile anche in Italiano!

The guys from MIWORLD.EU added an Italian translation and corrected some bugs in the German and English versions, too!
