Its not an adventure game, but this forum has everything so thought I would ask this. By far the best RPG experience I have had was Chrono Trigger. Post if you agree, and give me info on anything you think is better, as it must have some great gameplay. (Leave out MMORPGs, as there's a seperate thread for them.)
LucasArts rocks!

Chrono Trigger may be the best console RPG I've played.  I enjoyed Knights of the Old Republic more, but since I'm a Star Wars fan my opinion may have been biased.
But neither games can compare to what may be the greatest RPG I've ever played: Planescape Torment.

:)Waht website could I find out more about Planescape Torment from?

Two words.... Neverwinter Nights. It was rpg of the year. Its like a better version of Gauntlet and much more fun. If you have $30 bucks go out and buy it. Number one on my list of best Pc Game. :) Though it is Dungeons & Dragons it doesnt seem that way when you play though it is the same concept. NOW GO BUY IT!!!

Ps: My avaitor is one of the peoples... And she is really hot... :)

Chrono Trigger is my least favourite RPG game from Square... not to say that it isn't awesome, but I liked it less than say Secret Of Mana and it's sequal. The best RPG ever on a console I think is Final Fantasy 7. The depth and width of the entire game is insane, the music is ace, the plot is incredibly involving and has so many strands, elements and twists all the way up to the very end it's hard to keep up, and it's all excecuted perfectly. I love it to bits.
Repeat the last two sentances for Planescape: Torment too. That game is as brilliant, and slightly more adult.

I too am also in love with FF7. I think that it might very well be the best video game ever made...bar done. This game is simply huge, involving and dramtic. I actually cared about the chacacters, and what happened, something that is very rare in an RPG. Plus, it has huge replay value. My goal is to beat it before this year is over. Im almost done with the first disc, but the way Im playing, I doubt I'll get there.

* El Panda Grande gives FF7 4 1/2 thumbs up

oh, I also enjoyed chrono trigger and the secert of mana games, but that was a while ago, and Im too lazy to download roms to buy an snes
word up

Evil, NWN is good, but nowhere near Black Isle's best. Planescape is by the same people, and much, much better. I'm a huge RPG fan and I've yet to play anything as good as Planescape.

Anyone got anything to say about goldensun? I could never complete it due to a faulty rom. Got caught in the mountain pass on the way to the flooded place.
The use of psynergy to solve puzzles and those little element animal combos made it amazinng. I was impressed- anyone else here?
:o

Def is the guy to talk about Golden Sun with... I did play it for a while but stopped for some reason I can't remember. I never got into it's battle system that much, so that's probably why.

I'm an enormous Chrono Trigger fan.  I also thought Xenogears was incredible (except for when the pseudo-religious stuff got a bit too hokey), and Final Fantasy VI and VII were both awesome.

You're all wrong.

Nothing can compare to Dungeon Master. Nothing EVER.

Plus, the "Eye of the Beholder" games are worth a look (although number 3 is only for fans of the seriese, as it's a little on the ropy side)

Planescape is the best modern RPG by yards though.

Pah!

Lands of Lore is simply the best! Gotta love Patrick Stewart...

...really. Love him.

If i could have but one RPG to take with me on a deserted island.  it would be chrono trigger.  music, backgrounds, characters, plot, battle system, everything is perfection.

chrono for life.
I like having low self-esteem.  It makes me feel special.

Until a few months ago, I would have surely said Baldur's Gate II: Shadown of Amn. And then I played Planescape: Torment.
I won't say the latter is better. They are quite seriously different. BGII is bigger and wide, with more possiblities and plain dungeons to explore, where P:T is more story based. If put together, they will complete each other. These two are 2 of my 3 favourite games, along with Grim Fandango and my favourite RPGs.

Is Chrono Trigger the best RPG?

No.

Is Chrono Trigger the best (Console) RPG?

Debatable...but it is a matter of opinion.

I love CT and FF7 but I fear they are getting over rated. They are great games but people seem to quick to label them MASTERPIECES OF THE GALACTICAL AMAZING ROCKINESS STUFF! When there are many Rpg's just as good or possibley better.

Like Terranigma, Placescape: Torment, Fallout 1/2, Illusion of Gaia, All the Dragon Quests and many others...

(All that has been said is opinion, mine acctually, take it as such..please!)

Punch

Chrono Trigger was great. I never finished it though. I loved the logic put into the translation as well "We have an enemy called a 'Debugger', so logically there could be one called a 'Bugger'"

Tales of Phantasia was awesome. Get yourself a translated ROM and check it out. Very cool real-time battle system, very cool game. Except that the encounter rate is huge. Two steps and you get attacked again.

The Gargoyle's Quest series (if you call them RPG's) was really good too. Pretty average stories, but a lot of fun. Demon's Crest on the SNES was the best of the series.

i really don't think fallout is better than chrono.  especially fallout 1.  as terranigma and tales of phantasia, they still don't reach the level of chrono perfection.  what faults did it have? if you said none you're right.  good for you.

Faults? This whole thread is strictly opinion based...their is no right answer.

If you like Chrono trigger more then any other Rpg then you probobly feel it is the best...but there is no scientific hardcore mathmatical proof it is the single best game over every other game...

anything is the best anything is a pointless debate...

Which I why I pointed out that my post was my opinion...cause In my opinion CT isn't the best RPG...

If you wanna know why I feel that way its not because there is anything wrong with CT...I just don't think the best of anything exists. it is all point of view and perspective.

Long story short...Chrono Trigger is great. Fallout is great. Terranigma is great...why debate which is the greatest great!

I disagree. When you consider the inverse tachonian ratios of the Patellian functions, a satisfactory and quantative value of quality can be achieved.
