Hey, everyone.

I've got a problem with putting the game in full screen mode. Whenever I do I get the following:

I can't change this by altering settings in after compiling or before it seems, and I have no idea what the problem actually is.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: seems i left out some possibly important info.

Games resolution is 320x240.

Khris

Neither the screenshot's nor the image's dimensions are close to any standard size; did you resize this before posting it?

What are your settings in winsetup? If you can still choose the resolution, use the topmost selection. Then select the x2 filter. This should change the selected resolution to 640x480. Now try to run the game.
What operating system are you using? Monitor? Widescreen? Etc.

Sorry and thanks Kris,  I should have mentioned:

When I run the game in any resolution I get something that looks like what is above.  I don't get any changes between filters.  When I do the print screen function while in full screen I get only the background and not the background surrounded by the black.  The background from print screen stays consistently at 640x480 even if I change the filter.

I am using a Toshiba laptop.
According to my computer:
Display:   ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
I do not believe it is wide screen.

I am operating on Windows 7, and I really don't recall getting the problem before that but it was a while ago that I upgraded.

I downloaded the last MAGS winner and started it up and it had the same problem, so it is probably a system problem with adjusting the resolution...

Any ideas where to look?

EDIT:  I am also using AGS 3.2

Gilbert

It seems that your screenshot file was messed up to be scaled to some odd resolution (possibly by the programme that saved the file), since the centre "game area" is not a valid resolution that AGS would use.

I've done some testing, and when I enlarge the image to 1280x960 it seems that the "game area" will be scaled to around 640x480, so the resolution of your laptop's display panel is possibly 1280x960.

Again, try to toy around with the filter settings (and experiment with the full screen and graphics driver settings as well), as your game is 320x240 selecting 4x Nearest Neighbour should just make the graphics fill the whole screen (and select 2x for a 640x480 game).

Khris

Try this:
Make sure the game's resolution is set to 320x240.
-Re-import a room background of that size (make sure it says "Main background" in the dropdown menu, click Change..., etc.)
Run this windowed, at 320x240. Does this work?
Run it windowed with the x4 filter. What happens?
Try fullscreen and x4.

Also, make sure you update DirectX and the graphics card drivers.

Ethan D

If I run it windowed at 320x240 it works fine without the big black box around everything.

If I try running it windowed at 4x it says:

---------------------------
Adventure Game Studio
---------------------------
There was a problem initializing graphics mode 1280 x 960 (32-bit).
(Problem: 'Resolution not supported')
Try to correct the problem, or seek help from the AGS homepage.

Possible causes:
* your graphics card drivers do not support this resolution. Run the game setup program and try the other resolution.
* the graphics driver you have selected does not work. Try switching between Direct3D and DirectDraw.
* the graphics filter you have selected does not work. Try another filter.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

If I try running at 4x fullscreen I get the same problem.
Same for 3x apparantly

However theres no difference in appearance between 2x and no filter.

Sorry I took so long to respond.

Thanks for the help so far, I can't seem to figure out how to fix this...

It isn't just with my game though, its with all AGS made games it seems...  At this point i'm guessing it has something to do with Windows 7 but I have no idea what I could change.

If you change your desktop resolution to 640x480, what does it look like? What about when you run some other (non-AGS) game in 640x480 resolution?

Ethan D

That's strange, it seems like I can't change my computers resolution to 640x480... Maybe that is the problem.  I don't see why it would happen out of nowhere though.

zabnat

Can you change to any other resolution other than your screens native? Your screen might handle different resolutions without scaling, therefore the black borders appear. Try playing any game that lets you change resolution, and change it to something other than your screens native resolution (desktop resolution in windows) and see if it scales the image or puts in black borders.

Ethan D

Looks like your right zabnat!  No matter how I change the resolution of my screen black bars appear.  different sizes of course depending on what resolution I use.

Any idea how I can change that?

Khris

Update DirectX and your graphics card drivers.

zabnat

Newest NVidia drivers got a setting to choose how the scaling is handled. When you have updated your DirectX and graphics card drivers, check if your ATI driver has the similiar option. It's called GPU scaling.

Ethan D

Edit: I have updated DirectX and my graphics driver.

Well, I was checking around to find why it isn't working and I came across the CCC from ATI.  Like you suggested it seems my problem does have to do with that.  However, when I tell it to change to full screen or maintain aspect ratio for the scaling and then click apply it goes right back to "Centered"

I have absolutely no idea why it won't adjust and I have yet to find any solution to the problem.
