Great game, but I had the following problem at the end.  Spoiler alert.

When playing the game as a thief, the ending doesn't go quite like the walkthrough suggests.  When I try and break into the palace and head left on the top floor, instead of going to the harem I end up on a balcony that looks over the room where Khaveen is standing guard.  Can anyone suggest what I should be doing differently or how I can defeat Khaveen and move on?

If you're trying to follow the walkthrough for the EGA game while playing the remake then that explains the discrepancy. The Thief encounter with Khaveen in the Antechamber was not in the original version by Sierra (and thus, the solution won't be mentioned in the old walkthroughs). 

The scene you describe was added to the remake as an alternate method of dealing with Khaveen as a thief. When you're outside the Palace gates, if your thief doesn't have enough throwable projectiles (rocks & daggers) nor a Magic Rope with enough charges to successfully beat Ad Avis after going through the harem, he'll be taken to the Antechamber instead.

The objective here is the same as usual. Deal with Khaveen so that you can get past him and make it through the door to the ritual chamber. As a thief without magic, you'll need to be sneaky and deceptive about it. Watch Khaveen carefully and wait for the right moment.

Keep in mind that if you're forced to go through the Antechamber as a thief, you cannot obtain full game points.

First, as an old schooler, I loove the fact that you guys remade these games   I have to admit, the slow battling is a bit frustrating, but the rest of it is pretty, frickin, sweet.  My question:  Can I do ANYTHING as a thief and still become a paladin?  I imported my QFG1 Fighter and remained a fighter, but am able to do thief quests.  I would love to do them just to do them (get the whole feel for the whole game), but I also want to go Pal in QFG3.

Sorry for not replying sooner. There's a bunch of things you shouldn't do in order to become a paladin at the end of QFG2VGA and breaking in is one of them. (it's an instant disqualifier) If you want to get the best of both worlds, I suggest doing thief stuff in QFG2 (make sure to have stealth, lock picking and climbing), finishing the game as a fighter and become a paladin in QFG3. QFG3 has no paladin-exclusive quests, nor does it have any real thief sidequests you'll miss out on (there's very little for the thief to do there) and staying a fighter is harder in that game that becoming a paladin. Then you can carry your QFG3-promoted paladin over to QFG4 and 5 which do have paladin-exclusive quests. The only downer is the fact you won't have any paladin abilities for the biggest part of QFG3.

And slow battle? LOL, most people who didn't like the combat in QFG2VGA thought it was too fast-paced. Or maybe you're playing with some heavy filters.

Hey! I'm having a huge problem w/ the text parser in the game. Its impossible for me to type, every time I press a letter (except occasionally if I can tap it very quickly) the letter will repeat itself for the entire line, for example "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" (instead of the word I'm trying to type).

Even using point and click, this presents me from doing things like getting into Aziza's place, where you have to type out full answers to her questions.

Regarding the laptop issue - I play on one as well.  Is there a function key on yours towards the bottom left of your keyboard (next to control?).  If so, you can hold that and use the following keys for combat which correspond to the number pad: 789 UIO JKL.

I've being playing this again, this time deciding to finish it, and I'm wondering I'm a thief...can you hint me where the thieve's guild is? And if it's not in Shapeir, can you tell me how to go to Raseir?

There is no guild per se in Shapeir.  Raseir though, thats where the organized fun begins.  Although you can break into various places and fence your goods at the moneychanger, there is no guild in the town.  The only way to get to Raseir is to progress in the game.  You can't just travel there when you want.

And I haven't even played the VGA remake   The old EGA version was my favorite game in the entire world as a kid.  I swear I must've played it 100+ times.
