Hi everyone.
Starting a new thread to notify you of a new AGS game :

Title : "Dune : Ghola - life and death of Leto Atreides II"
Technics : 640*480, 16bits, music but probably non-talkie, no lip-sync.

Plot (to understand the story better you should read the book "God-Emperor of dune" or visit the wikipedia page : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_emperor_of_dune )

You are Duncan Idaho, once the mighty servant of House Atreides, now a Ghola created for a mysterious purpose that only the God Emperor (the Sandworm with a human face) knows.
Will you be able to break out from your poor condition and rule your destiny?

Advancement
This is NOT a lame annoucement by a beginner who thinks that one only has to draw nice backgrounds to make a great game.  ;)

I already almost finished a demo room with all puzzles. Most important (becuase it is sooo long to perform), I fully drew the animations of the main character. though they need enhancement, they are acceptable and original.

Old screenshot :
Here, you can have an idea of what the game should look like :

When you can be bothered to upload 2 actual in-game screenshots I'll unlock this thread.

Please review the Forum Rules.

Thanks for the update!

If you're Duncan Idaho, you should just look like a regular guy. Dark, curly "goat" hair, "cave sitter" eyes, military bearing, bit of a ladies' man. The Dune Messiah/Children of Dune ghola of Duncan (Hayt) had artificial eyes, but not the one in God Emperor. The guy in the first screenshot looks a lot like (the oddly chubby) Duncan in Cryo's Dune adventure game, so I assume that's him. (It could also be Moneo, though.)

What is that head thing, anyway? It's too small to be Leto (who basically looks like Jabba the Hutt with a human face). A Tleilaxu Master, perhaps?

A Dune-based game would be very interesting, and the concept and graphics are promising. You really should have someone look over the dialogue, though. The conversation snippets shown here are a bit awkward, and there are a couple of misspellings. You got "Tleilaxu" wrong, for instance. I'd be happy to help you out, since I'm a huge Dune geek. Actually, anything I can do, from playtesting to scripting help, just ask.

Hey, that's the idol from Raiders of The Lost Ark! Give it back, Belloq!
I'm composing the music for this game:

I concur!

I too would be interested in helping with this project, since I'm also a huge dune geek. God Emperor of Dune (or GEOD as it is more easily called) would be great as a game, in my opinion, and its about time someone picked it up as an AGS game. Ultimately, I'd also like to see a Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse Dune game.

voh

It's about time anyone gave some praise for the post-trilogy books, damnit!

"Yeah, Dune's good, but only the first three" is a phrase I am SO sick of hearing!

Try to do the story and atmosphere justice, however. I'm not getting a warm feeling from watching these screenshots (for example, if the head/embryo thing is the playable character, I'm wondering why Duncan Idaho is a misshapen head/embryo thing while the other guy is a convincing Duncan).

Also - the first Dune game is awesome. Whoever disagrees is inherently wrong due to my opinion's trueabilityliciousity.
Still here.

Well, to me, they were good, but... some of the house books felt like someone was trying too hard. I got non of the magic I felt when I read "Dune"
sorry if this peeves you, its just how I feel.

Well, the 'House' books are sort of pre trilogy, aren't they? Being prequels, and all. Post trilogy would be God Emperor, Heretics and Chapterhouse. Possibly the new ones (Hunters and Sandworms, I think) too. I agree that the House and Legends books lack something, but the second trilogy definitely deserves more love. Anyway, totally off-topic.

If the man in black IS Duncan (based on the screenie Snarky linked), I don't like him. He's closer to how I'd picute a Harkonen. Other than that, the screens look good and while I'm not a huge Dune geek I so would play this.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Snarky

Please, can we just pretend that Brian and Kevin's books don't exist?

Please, please, gentlemen, I didn't want to start a critics of the Dune saga  ;)

Yep.

QuoteIt's about time anyone gave some praise for the post-trilogy books, damnit!
Yup.
Everybody believes that Paul Atreides' victory is the end of the story (and they even think it's a happy end)  ;D Definitely not.

QuoteIf you're Duncan Idaho, you should just look like a regular guy. Dark, curly "goat" hair, "cave sitter" eyes, military bearing, bit of a ladies' man.

In fact, appart from the "goat" hair, I think he quite looks like the original one. Dark, handsome, black hair, wearing a uniform...

QuoteThe guy in the first screenshot looks a lot like (the oddly chubby) Duncan in Cryo's Dune adventure game

You are right. These graphics were my inspiration. They sure could be closer to the descriptions in the book, but I think Cryo's graphics were very original and immersive. Anyway, I drew Duncan a bit slimer than in Cryo's Dune (they gave him a baby face  ;)).

QuoteWhat is that head thing, anyway?
QuoteHey, that's the idol from Raiders of The Lost Ark!

Wait and see ;) It's not a character, it's a statue.

You are right, that's what I intended to do. If there is a volunteer for the dialogs, just PM me.

Also, there are a few minor bugs in the interface. If someone is willing to correct them, I'd be glad (it would gve the game a more "professional feeling).

It's of no use at this moment because i'm still busy coding AGSH. I just made it to have some fun between two llines of code :-)

Woow Monsieur... I wish I could draw. I really wish I could draw... Did I mention that I really wish I could draw.

Everything looks great in your game...

I'm a Dune fan too, I wish your gonna make your game.

All those moments... will be lost... in time, like tears... in... rain."

Well I haven't managed to read the whole dune book. But i've seen the movie and the music and the script is awesome I mean very cult. Anyway about having an AGS game based on the novel Dune i have only one thing to say.

Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Tragically, both Lynch's and Cryo's depictions of Duncan Idaho are kind of off.

I think except for Idaho and obviously Paul himself (sure, Maclachlan is usually great, but Paul is supposed to be in his mid-teens...) Lynch had a wonderful cast. Leto, Jessica, Dr. Yueh, Chani, Gurny etc, are all perfect imo.

They're maybe not true to the descriptions in the book, but so full of character and charisma!

The other movies/series haven't come close to this class.

Sorry for going off-topic, but after seeing that screenshot, somehow, all I can think of is a Babylon 5 adventure game...

Back on topic: The game sounds very interesting, but also quite ambitious for a first project, hopefully, not overly so. I'm looking forward to it.
I look just like Bobbin Threadbare.
