- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

.cha files are only created within AGS.

you create your images in other programs, upload them one by one into ags, and then create a character. Now, lets say you wanted to, perhaps, create a sequel to that game, you could then export the character as a .cha file, and import it into your new game.

Candle

Save all your sprite files to a folder then click on the Sprite manager link in AGS, add a name for your sprite to the default folder , right click anywhere in the blank spot on the right and click Qick import mulitiple sprites .
Browse to that folder and select all the files .click ok .

Thanks guys

Now click the views link and add all of your sprites you will see up down left and right as you add loops .

Sometimes you just have to come straight out and tell them.

Well if he had read this (the below) like he was guided toward doing, it should have become obvious.  Seeing as you pretty much said the exact same thing.

Quote#7 I saved my character's animation images as *.CHA files in MS Paint/PSP/PhotoShop, but they won't import into AGS. What did I wrong?

The .CHA format is not just an image. AGS has the ability to export entire character animations, settings, and images into one file. The .CHA file format is used primarily for distributing entire character packages among AGSers, like on the RON (Reality On the Norm) web site here. To create your own characters, read the question below.

#8 How on Earth do I create my own characters!?

First, you must save each frame in the animation in any painting program as a .BMP or .PCX file. Then, import them one-by-one into the Sprite Editor in AGS. In the Views section of AGS, create a new view (or use the existing one to replace the main character's walking animation) and choose the images for each direction there. Next, in the Characters pane, create a character (or use the first one, if you're replacing low-res Roger as your main character) and select the corresponding views. If you want talking views (animations run when the player is talking), then read the question below. Finally, make sure that "This is the player character" is checked off. And ensure that the new/altered character starts in the room you want him/her to (i.e. 0 for INTRO.CRM and 1 for ROOM1.CRM, etc.).

You know, it doesn't always help reading the tutorial over and over. I sometimes have problems that I can't explain and therefor don't find them there. I bet most people who ask questions like this HAVE already read the tutorial or the FAQ for help, why, it's the fastest way for Christ's sake. But I have noticed that some things in the tutorial are not easy to understand at all, and may need a clarification of somekind.
So where does all the hostility towards newbies come from anyway? So, if I can't understand what some people can. Myself, I've been working on scripting languages etc. for 7 months now approximately, can't figure 'em out still. But I bet if I was helped I could. Well, I'm not asking, but hey... Read the freaking scripting tutorial!

This is but my opinion, and as I wish to point out, I do understand those with different opinions.

This is a valid argument that gets brought up a lot...however, we do get these types of "newbie" questions quite a bit as well.  Many a thread started has an answer hidden* somewhere in the forums if not in the BFAQ or manual, and if you search, you may even find clarification for those that are if you are still confused.  The only real reason for hostility is that we have tried to make it as easy as possible for new members to find answers to their more simplistic questions, and yet we still get a lot of questions that have been answered thousands of times.

I'd like to apologize if I have offended anyone with my statement, but I believe the above should explain my point of view on the matter.

*I only say hidden here because they won't always be on the first page.  Even if you use the forum's search function you won't always find the answer on the first page of results...

I understand and I really respect the work you all put on helping us (should I say "us" if I've been using the program for quite a long time :))

You said it there, and I was underlining this statement earlier as I found it said in a not sarcastic way. This is why I must appologise also for using the word "hostile" as it had no convinience here. What really bothers me is that most of the guidance given to you don't come clear for a newbie. I for one need them explained step by step and word by word. I must not attack, but I add here, that it IS indeed easier to tell what to do, than why to do it...
It appears as everyone of course has read the tutorial are expected to understand it. I'm not sure how this is in all cases, but there you have my opinion. Perhaps a thread for guiding through the tutorial was needed. Or can we trust in the common sense ??? Well, I've made my point, or talked what ever comes to mind...

I think the problem is that some people can understand things better when someone is actually saying it to them (even via an online forum) instead of them reading it in some sort of article...even when they are both saying the exact same thing.

So I don't suppose there's an easy way to handle it, because who is to say which users do and which users don't fully understand what it says (as well as which ones have and have not actually read the material)?

Tuomas

I agree. This is for MOST people, that's why we have teachers at school. And to think back, who would really have time and interest in either creating a tutorial troubleshooting section or to ansew questions concerning it.
