The movie is gonna be horrible. It would take a miracle straight from God and his neighbor for it to be ottherwise.

Am I gonna go see it?

Shit yeah!

A bit off topic and back to the Freddy vs. Jason thing --

I'm a big fan too (when we went to a marathon to see all the Friday the 13th movies back-to-back, my friedns and I actually all stood up and clapped at the 100th on-screen death, and we did something similar at the Nightmare movies), but I just really didn't like Freddy vs. Jason. I guess I had this vision in my mind of how awsome it should have been or something. Reason I didn't like it:

-Thought Jason looked craptastic. One of his worst incarnations ever, IMO.
-Not enough fighting between Jason and Freddy. Wasn't that what peple actually wanted to see?!?!!
-Freddy not attacking Jason's dreams enough or manipulating him to kill others enough.
-Freddy just didn't have NEARLY as many or as good of funny lines in this one as compared to the Nightmare series, where it was a real staple to the series.
-Not enogh of Jason chasing people, a staple of the Friday the 13th series.
-Not enough cool, creative death scenes, something both sereis were great for.

There's other things, too, but those are the big ones.  I guess it comes down to me just not having as much fun watching it as I did with pretty much all of the other movies that came before it. Heck, I even appreciated Jason X more than I did Freddy vs. Jason.

Back to Aliens vs. Predator, though, I have a feeling that they'll be making a lot of those same mistakes in not keeping intact some of the crucial elements that made those movies great. A PG13 rating ALONE stinks of "but we want kids to be able to see this too... so we can get more money!!!". Of course, maybe then there's a better chance of more action figures, too. And we can never have enough Aliens and Predator action figures, can we?

The PG-13 rating worries me aswell.. But the MPAA is a little whacked out. They gave American Splendor an R rating because it had the f-word in it.. twice, maybe, and it had majorly adult thematic elements.. Yet they give Austin Powers (or any teen movie) a PG-13 rating though it has more sexual innuendos and non-f swearing than an issue of Penthouse...  And they'll give a PG-13 rating to LOTR which depicts decapitations and all sorts of violence... But swearing seems to do it in for the MPAA.... I remember when they could say "fuck" in a PG movie.. "Big", anyone?

So I'm guessing (hoping) perhaps that vP will have plenty of viloence (hopefully no gratuitous sex, then I'll be walking out) and just no hardc0re swearing.. .That's not too bad... Considering that swearing hardly ever makes the movie great (baring Goodfellas and some others.) Maybe we won't see the type of gore as seen in Alien 3; but I'm sure there will be mass amounts of killing and all out war between the three sides...

I'm going in with curiousity and nothing more... I know I will probably enjoy it just from the production values. I watched some featurettes at EB Games, and none of the Aliens or Predators are CG... Thank God! They actually went back to using puppets and costumes! Wow..

The only thing I'm afraid of is that Paul Anderson made some plot inconsistencies or is going to make something too unbelievable or just totally irrelavent  and wrong when compared to the other movies... Apparently, though. the creator of Bishop (and pioneer of robotics, apparently) will be in the movie... Who, well, also happens to be the same actor who played Bishop in the trilogy. Go figure.

Bottom line is: Nobody knows how it'll go for sure.. Wheter it's crap or greatness, I'm sure lots and lots of people will like it for their own reasons and pay their money happily to see it.

Oh, and Eric... Long live franchising.. :-p

I was thinking about it... The PG13 movie doesn't neccesarily mean no gore... It just means no HUMAN gore. As long as the blood isn't red, it can be as messy as it wants. Chest-bursting Predators anyone?  ;)

What, you've never seen the predators spear?

 :o

Just curious, but is that "yes you CAN have too many Aliens/ Predator toys" or "yes, that's right: you CAN'T have too many Aliens/ Predator toys"? 'Cause I'm not seeinga Queen there.  ::)

Kinoko

I just think the human element in this is going to be too ... THERE. I think what people are afraid of in this movie IS INDEED too much plot development, etc... we just want lots of gore and killing going on between aliens and those other aliens. I don't want a movie called "Alien vs Predator" to be more like "Alien vs Predator with a Bunch of Humans involved". I'm sure I'll see the movie at some point, but I think when people say they suspect it'll be a bad movie, they mean, "It won't be bad enough". It'll have human emotions and feelings and strategy and one-liners and -endless- dialogue. I think the reason they'll never make a great AVP movie is that we all know the general western movie going audience can't handle any serious amount of time without dialogue and if it were a true AVP movie, it's likely to have little speaking in it at all. Just violent sound effects and lots of silent bits.

m0ds

Skeptical about this movie. IMDB returns a list of people I've never heard of making it.. No original composers, directors, editors etc. That makes me believe this is more of a tie in with a game than a serious "cinematic" attempt to merge the two worlds of alien and predator together. That would be awesome, but I don't think this movie is it.

I'm still going to see it though ;)

Paper Carnival

I too have a bad feeling about this one, but I still hope for the best. Usually when this happens, the movie turns out to be good. I'm definately going to see it though.

I hope they don't make one of those movies that are so bad that I can write a better one

At least it won't be another "House of the Dead" incident. Uwe Boll deserves a spear in the head and groin..

on the previews that are still running on tv here in the us, it states that the movie is not yet rated.

Honestly, I never expected much from Alien vs. Predator.

I mean, for fucks sake, it's a movie about ALIENS VS. PREDATORS.

What, were people expecting the film to be Shakespeare, covered in gore?

Predator was about action, gore, violence and much swearing.Ã,  The ALIEN series always had a more taut, thriller feel in my opinion.Ã,  Do you really think a studio is going to make a "thinking persons" movie about Aliens and Predators?Ã,  Nah.

I agree with Paul Anderson sucking the Devil's gibbets (or something).Ã,  I was really hyped for Resident Evil, and then I discover that he took creative license to new heights by inventing ALL his own characters and turning the mansion into a super underground lab.Ã,  The movie was good, don't get me wrong, but don't you ever wonder why these people that think they can do so much better than an author/game designer don't just make their own unique movie.Ã,  He could have called it Radioactive Zombies of Hoboken and I still would have seen it.Ã,

And how many times can they keep using a synthetic to impersonate Weyland before we just get tired of seeing Lance Henriksen altogether?

As to what Blackthorne mentioned, isn't this the first pg-13 predator or alien movie made?  Seems to me like the gore will be substantially toned down on this one.

Case closed.

Scummbuddy

yeah, nevermind about my previous post. its is pg 13 and that does scare me a bit.

Loved Alien. Hated Predator. The movie will suck.

But Sylpher said it all, really:

Blackthorne: I don't think anyone here expects (or even wants) to see an AvP film that tries to be a thoughtful, intelligent work of art - most just want it to be trashy entertainment. But there are still degrees of trash - Robocop, The Thing, Total Recall, Predator and even Alien(s) to an extent are all basically ultraviolent trashy entertainment at heart, but they're beautifully crafted, extremely effective and intelligently handled trashy entertainment.

The reason people are worried about AvP is because there's no reason to assume Paul Anderson is capable of creating anything close to the quality of those films above, and combined with the PG-13 rating, there's plenty of reason to worry that we're going to end up with an ineptly handled, sanitized piece of crap.

Kinoko

I could not have said it better, Paul. I agree completely.

Blackthorne

Yeah, Alien vs. Predator is going to be crap.

Who gives a fuck?

And Predator was beautifully crafted?  Forgive me if I consider John McTiernan not QUITE as good a director as say, Ridley Scott or James Cameron.

As for PG-13, it's been said - the violence is between two fantasy, Alien creatures.  And you can have as much violence in a movie as you like now, just as long as you don't say fuck more than twice, and still recieve a PG-13.  Cause lord knows, 'fuck' is more offensive than seeing bodies explode.

Robocop, yeah, that was Verhouven's bloody masterpiece.  But the violence in that film was mostly towards humans.  The scene that helped it earn it's initial NC-17 rating was the murder of Murphy, which featured extensive prosthetic work by Rob Bottin.  Total Recall, again, the Dutch Master was using over-the-top violence in his patented way, based on a story by Phillip K. Dick.  The story WAS important.

The Thing, by Carptenter, mostly centered on Human eviseration, although perpetuated by an Alien.

Paul Anderson, yeah, sucks.  He's an MTV style director, and I'm sure the studio really wanted to capture the ADD market.  But I don't think the movie WON'T be entertaining.
