I tried to create A.I. Generated art. Tried out to make Simon Stålenhag inspired art by A.I. And was chocked.

The good thing is that you can make scetches and your own art, and present it to the A.I. So I wondered, what if... I was thinking of creating an A.I. trend, to recreating the old SEGA 8-16 bit, Nintendo 8-16 bit, MSX, MSX2, MSX Turbo. And Adventure games from the 80s, to the early 20th century.

I will take some examples of what to do.

Goonies 2:

Make the game 2D, or similar to 80s airbrush (like Syd Brak´s art in the 80´s), and make the art a living airbrush painting. The rooms should be like companions of Xanth, with means they have objects. Add more puzzles to it. Remake the music to 80´s synthpop, djungle, and whatever you please.

Monkey Island Series:

The Monkey Island series. Especially 1-4. Make 2D cinematic pictures. Make all pictures look like a pirate movie from the 80´s. Add all the right colors, light and glittering effects, Add some noize, so it get the feeling of beeing an old WHS casette.

It shall NOT be 3D, but typical 2D, like Gabriel Knight 2, but better. And remake the music by A.I. Give the game an extreme 80´s feeling.

Let A.I. scan through the game, look at all pictures, and remake the to a living pirates voodoo dream.

I have no mouth and I must scream:

So, remake I have no mouth and I must scream, by A.I. Into a horror game looking like an 80´s futuristic horror movie. Just replace the original graphic with IR, or photo like graphic. Add noize. It gives the WHS feeling. Still this effect should be possible to turn on/off as you please.

Space Quest Series:

Recreate the Space Quest Series by A.I. BUT also the fan games, into games that feels like watch: Star Trek, Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Retro futuristic 80´s game, with graphic like a normal Sci-Fi movie.

Doctor Who:

This one is a little bit different, as one using Doctor Who movies, games, fan movies, novels, and fanfiction, to creating SCUMM games. Each episode you wish to play as a game, you draw some pictures, let A.I: do the rest. So now your own favorite Doctor Who episode could be an adventure game. It can look like classic adventure games from the 90´s, or like a Sci-Fi movie.

Just have in mind about the Copyright Laws. It´s an interesting idea. And you do not own the Copyright of the product.

Interesting idea. Personally I've always thought remaking old classic adventure games that are IMO perfect in their own way as they are seems like a waste of time, especially when you could make something original, or even a sequel, but to each their own. AI is a very interesting tool and it could be a used for a lot of different applications. For me, making games is just a hobby that I like to dabble in that inspires me to get better at art while I'm studying to be a tattoo artist, so it would kind of defeat the purpose for me. But I'll admit at times I've been very tempted to just type something in to an AI generator and get instant results, lol.

Anyway, I think a project based on this could be really cool, whatever it is you decide to make with it.

Thanx. I think something like a Photorealistic filter could do the thing. It´s like take a screenshoot of a game, and transform it into a Photorealistic picture.

Here we have a youtube clip of Panavision 70, of: Futurama (50´s), Duke Nukem (80´s), Streets Of Rage (80´s) and last Metal Gear Solid (80´s):

Think it like Space Quest, or even a new Quest Series, something like: Time Quest, draw pictures, prototypes, draw Comics, writing a story, make puzzles, and present it for A.I. BUT it´s important to NOT be lazy, and to at least do some of the art, in any ways or any forms.

The Longest Journey was the closest to Photorealistic artwork.

Have in mind, I do not talking about 3D games, to move 360 degrees, but a normal picture, made up of layers of background, foreground, SFX´s, tiles and sprites, and voices and sound FX, all being created by A.I.

Even some games of AGS, that are good, but not so aesthetic pleasing, could be brought back to life with new graphisc, not neccessary Photorealistic art, but any art style they wish to make.

But as always it should have some self made artwork, as I see A.I. as a type of false art. Beautyful? Yes! Very! But also false in a way. I work with art, so I don´t see A.I. art as true art, instead an extremely potential tool to give life

However, I really like the 80´s aesthetic´s. Just take a look at Twin Peaks series, sure it was an 80´s-90 series, but catch the good feeling, or an ABBA music video, where you beeing blinded by the discoballs light, when looking at the videos.

Grasping the 80´s is to revive the 80´s futuristic dreams, of how the future would looks like.

Absolutely. I love the 80's feel. A Twin Peaks game would be weird. Sounds interesting.
Lol, the Futurama is spot on.
Anyways, sounds cool. If you decide to take this project on, best of luck to you  8-)

I didn´t mean making a Twin Peaks game... but that´s an awesome idea. Actually an artist made pictures of how different TV-shows and movies would looks like, and one was Twin Peaks.

I think of first making A.I Generated pictures of Twin Peaks, some scetches, some pictures. It can be 3 or more pictures,

The first one: is the A.I. Generated Image, but it can be a scene, a situation.

The second Image: Is a hand drawn version of the A.I. version, without specific details, maybe a different perspective, or new details.

The third is the new A.I Regenerated version of your picture. It could also be what.

Make all the pictures in high resolution at first. When everything is fixed, then we should a redraw filter, into graphic styles, such as Monkey Island, Kyrandia, or Sherlock Holmes. But with an 80´s graphic filter.

Write some puzzles. Ask A.I. to create puzzles. Read them, rewrite the puzzles, andask A.I to helping to refining the puzzles, till you are pleased.

The music should be the music in the TV-series, or remixes of them, depending of where you are in the game.

When doing the game, use Mind Mapping. Write texts, and whats happening on each game screen. Like people eating food in the restaurant. People smoking, someone dance, eating cherry pie. Leaf of a flower fell to ground, each time you enter, or exit the restaurant. SFX´s. And presenting them for the A.I.

When finished, you using the A.I. filter, to change the graphics to nice 90´s graphic, with a coozy 8o´s feeling.

The game would be quite big, I must say. Then give the game to David Lynch, and ask him to include the game in his new 3 season collection, as a bonus DVD game.

Thanx :)

I don't mean to be rude, but is bobjowanny a real person, or is that a ChatGPT response?

Either way, I find it hard to understand what is so interesting about this. Having ideas for games isn't difficult. Getting art for games isn't even that complicated. If you want to make a pixel art game, you can simply pay an artist to create assets for you. It's simple and ethical!

The hard part is actually making a game.

Ahem.

Interestingly, I've been recently looking at some AI tools available to detect AI text responses. As a test, I ran the response in question through GPTZero, and the results were 0% Human, 0% Mixed, 100% AI, based on various factors (construction, writing style, etc.)

So, to give the user the benefit of the doubt, they may not be a bot but they likely didn't write that response themselves.

Some of the spam accounts we've been seeing lately seem to be ChatGPT-fueled bots.

Right, a new forum member who just registered to jump in on a three months old discussion about using AI for making games, posting enthusiastically while sounding exactly like your usual motivating chatbot  :-D
