Program for isometric pixel graphics?

Eh, I recall many noob threads with same title.
Sadly, couldn't find any.

Anyway, I have an idea that requires large amount or low-resolution isometric graphics.
There's 2 ways to go: Either MSpaint till I'm bald, or find something better...

Does anyone know something better? Iso-oriented, maybe?
And still pixel-art. Not those strange things like World Creator 1.5 (which I failed to get to start and which was best Google had to offer)

I remember building editor for SimCity2000 which was specially designed for isometric drawing. It had some weird tools and automatic isometric cropping and whatnot.

Anything else like this in the depths of internet?

And please, don't say Photoshop. Unless you're a pro, making pixels in Photoshop is like sharpening a pencil with a pneumatic drill.

I dunno, what would make a painting program isometric-oriented? I'm kind of confused. I tried my hand at some iso graphics one time and MSPaint was more than enough.
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

Get GIMP, then put an iso grid in another layer and start painting.

Edge 2 has native support for isometric grids (it is NOT isometric-oriented, it is an all-round pixel graphic editor). It also has tile graphics modes and other goodies. Too bad it is not free (without registering you can only save to BMP format, i.e. no layering information can be saved) and, it is in Japanese.

@Gilbet: Yeah, well, at least the Japanese part might put off some people  ;)

The usual suspect has support for iso grids too.

I've also found this quote in the Pixel Joint Forums:
QuotePIXEL STUDIO : it also has the tools that GraphicsGale has, nice GUI, and the instant isometric tool rocks. though working in pixelling is somewhat different from a standard paint program but you'll get use to it in time

Isotopia looks interesting too: http://code.autistici.org/trac/isotopia

Oh, thanks for links!

Gimp = Photoshop. Commented & explained in first post.

Pro motion has that exact iso & 1 pixel grid combo I like!
Unfortunately, pre-set palette system kind of... sucks. It's different from anything I've used after 256-color era.

I will think about using this. It's my candidate #1.

Pixelstudio has really cool Iso-geometry tools. But grid settings suck and it has that "hello-world"-app oversimplified feel overall. And it contained a nice thing AVG antivirus named as "logger". Don't know if it's really harmful, but AVG blocked it and program ran fine.

Strong second in my list. I would love to see those two combined. I love grid and I love tools. But I seriously don't want to miss either one - or use two programs for one image. Kind of bad situation here.

I still had only a brief overview so I guess those programs have much more underneath.

I'm gonna try to learn those programs more and maybe try isotopia too (though it seemed like not a painting program).
For anyone still wondering what I'm looking for, check out those links by yourself. And why MSPaint-using for iso-drawing is such a pointless chore with tools like this.

But if anyone else has anything to suggest, shoot!

Maybe you'd prefer mtPaint then... has the pixel grid, some Iso Tools, but also support for 16-bit. Best of all, it's free.

I think Isotopia is more for trying out your ISO creations and if they fit.
