Going to an advanced screening of this on um, April 2nd?
That's the advance screening? It's started showing in our cinemas today, in fact I could run to the cinema right now and catch it (I live 10 minutes walking distance from a movieplex), but I'll probably go tomorrow or later to avoid the crowds.
This is all weird because usually movies come at least 2-3 months after they're shown in the US, except on some occasions.

I'm looking forward to this movie. I saw the trailer a while back and as soon as they mentioned mental asylums and video-game-like worlds of imagination as means of therapy for a young gril ( or at least that's what I remember) it got me hooked. Now, the only problem is that it's not the kind of film you can go watch with your girlfriend... so I'm waiting for a DVD release:)

The whole point of retro sci-fi is to stay within the realm of "it could have been like this if..."
That's what makes it for me. When it's over the top, but not too much.

For those reasons, I love the giant robot and german soldiers.
For those reasons too, I hate the girls in miniskirts with WWII uniforms and UZI machineguns. That makes NO SENSE. There is no artistic reasearch. It's just the random output of a bunch of (male) nerdy trendy artists who produced something in a rush for the producer, whose only instructions were "include anything that's "cool" into it, no matter what!"

I know I'll offense some, but for me that's cheap merchandizing prospect, not pop culture.

EDIT: I watched the trailer, and on top of that it turns out it's a rip off of Inception, just coated in candy.
(yeah, I'm in a bad mood)

I've seen the trailer and I've seen 300 and Watchmen (didn't like either).
Snyder is probably the most overrated director out there. Especially 300 left a very bad taste in my mouth. These movies are like very bad fast food. He puts all the tasty ingredients in there, violence, hot chicks plenty of explosions and over the top SFX but this alone doesn't make a good movie - after seeing it you're still hungry (except watchmen which was way too long). This movie seems to be so full of all these ingredients that there wont be much more room for anything else.
And, call me a moralist but both, the girls (which are still supposed to be children if i got it right) in their very sexual suggestive outfits and the trivialization of nazis seem to be very dubious choices to make a buck.

- I kind of get not liking 300 (it's not everyones cup of tea, but I thought it kind of brought something new to action movie genre),
- you didn't like Watchmen? I didn't like some things that were omitted from the comic, but as a director he did a fine job, and I liked the film as well

Maybe you should skip this one. I really don't know what to think of the movie after all the bad reviews, but I think that I went to see much crappier movies than this amd it's really hard to judge from trailers and from reviews these days.
Yes, I'm guessing this won't be the best movie ever and yes, I think they mixed up too many stuff in this one, but I also think it's a good fun movie if taken with less expectations.

Hehe. I recently watched the trailer, I have to say I'm not bothered if I don't see this til its television debut. Looks cheesy. Couldn't quite figure out who the lead character is supposed to appeal to, either. Not sure I'll really give a poop about her character after 10 minutes. Looks to me like it's aimed at mid to late teenagers. Not enough violence or porn to be a proper adult movie and a bit too much violence and suggestive outfits for it to be for kids. I didn't see any eye watering cgi in the trailer either, just same old same old. Slow mo cgi is nothing new. I'd be more inclined to see a movie made with Frostbite. But none the less this is someones fantasy and I'm sure it'll be a success. But I am kind of thinking my mates a bit of a fag for wanting to go see it now :P I think I prefer taking a risk spending extortionate amounts in a cinema on "grit" rather than airy fairy fantasy stuff. But then I never saw Lord of the rings or Harry Potter in the Cinema. I don't think I really give a crap about a lot of the fantasies portrayed in those movies. Still, I've got the option to see sucker punch for free, just not even sure I want to bother, LOL. Whoever sees it do give some reviews please, it'll help me make up my mind :)

The actresses (?) are not underage, but they look really small on the trailer so they might be portraying small girls, or maybe Babydoll just stayed for a lot of years in the asylum before trying to scape.
As for the soldiers, they are like robot-wwi soldiers, so no Nazis.

Watched the Sucker Punch movie tonight.
Not...

Mmhh, a few hours ago me and my girlfriend went to the cinema to watch Sucker Punch.
A few minutes before the movie should start we where at the shop buying a coke and peanut m&m's.
Before I was able to pay the fire alarm went of and everybody was ordered to leave the cinema.
There were fireman checking out the building but I think they found nothing.
Maybe it was one of those stupid people who secretly and quickly tried to smoke a cigaret or a spliff at the toilet.
Anyway, after being outside for more then half an hour they gave green light to re-enter the cinema.
Once back at the shop we got the coke and peanut m&m's for free because of the commotion.
Once in the movie room, advertisement was shown for a while and then the screen and lights went out, only the sound was still playing.
After 15 minutes the intro tune of Sucker Punch was audible but still no screen.
10 minutes later eventually someone from the cinema entered the room and told us the projector was broken.
So we got back the money for the Sucker Punch tickets and went back home.
Wasted two and a half hours for seeing no Sucker Punch...  :-\

For me this was for sure the weirdest cinema visit ever...  ::)

That sucks Arjon! Well if review #1 is all hell breaks loose at the cinema, I'm still not tempted whatsoever to see this mousey blonde girl who goes mental and fights nazi shit. :P I'm more inclined to re-watch extremely hot blonde girl tries to love Ed scissorhands.

Guys, the movie is probably cliched as fuck. I mean it takes 7 beaten and abused girls, that fight their way out of a mental asylum, and instead of doing that properly, they decide to surrealistically project the whole movie as a battlefield.

I HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE. This is just apparent as hell from the trailer.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Yep. And the art direction doesn't look like anything special either. So I'm quite surprised that a thread discussing this film is so popular here, when action flicks like these are a dime a dozen. Maybe we could use a thread for discussing newest movies in general.

Oh, fudge, I don't mean to be "defending" this movie, since I'm not sure it's good (as in "if I'm going to like it") nor that it needs defending since not only is not made for everybody, but most of things and opinions said so far are not from watching the movie but pure speculation.
BUT, and this is not making fun of you or arguing with you just pure interest, could you name some of those dime a dozen movies?  ???

Speculating is still discussing in my book. And I wasn't attacking the film, just surprised it's getting so much interest out of all possible movies out there. It makes me think AGSers are just starved for some conversation about what's currently in cinemas.

Watch the trailer of the newest adaptation of The Three Musketeers for example. Ninjas, flying ships and Milla Jovovich kicking butt (in 3D!).  :=

Apparently, this is the Worst Movie Ever (spoilery link).

Dawn of the Dead was okay. 300 was...okay-ish. Watchmen was...okay-esque.  :-\

Oh well.... Looks like I won't be seeing this cr... movie then.  :o

I bet that people who wrote those reviews enjoyed writing them more than the film they were about:) -if there is one good thing about bad films it's that they always fuel critics' creativity and make for some very funny reads:)

moshboy

I personally didn't mind 300, although it just felt like a pale imitation of Sin City. Loved Watchmen though.. I thought he did a pretty solid job there. I haven't seen this yet and I don't know if I will go out of my way to see it. Zack Snyder is good at the whole 'slo mo action' thing but it sounds a bit empty otherwise.

Atelier

Clearly IGN has other ideas. That entire list is actually an abomination (excluding Phantom Menace - anyone ever seen Spaced? ;D) and Indiana and the Crystal Skull I can understand. The scene where the alien spaceship comes down made me cry with crushing disappointment.
