Hello all,
I'm writing an essay for Uni and I ... need your help on one detail. Basically, a long time ago I remember playing a couple of flash games. All I really remember about them is that they were beautiful, bizarre illustrations with interactive bits you could click on to make stuff happen, some of them had strange music, the art was sometimes very abstract. I remember finding them fascinating but I cannot for the life of me remember any of their names and don't know what to google for. Any ideas, or any beautifully illustrated interactive things you would like to point me towards that could be of interest instead?
Thank you lovely people :) X
Samorost?

Ahh, you're the king! Perfect :)
Though I'd be really interested to see what other people can contribute to this thread as I'm really interested in seeing as many different types of interactive illustrations as possible at the moment, so keep it coming please! :D
Cheers!
X
Not sure if you consider this "interactive illustration" (it's certainly very different from Samorost), but I personally love Daniel Benmergui's experimental games, in particular Today I Die (http://www.ludomancy.com/blog/2009/05/06/today-i-die-released/) and I Wish I Were the Moon (http://www.ludomancy.com/blog/2008/09/03/i-wish-i-were-the-moon/).
Hey there! Maybe sprout (http://www.kongregate.com/games/customlogic/sprout) or Deep Chalk (http://robosutra.com/deepchalk/thirdphase.html) might also be of interest to you, they are closest to what you call "interactive illustrations".
One of my favourite sites ever:

In all games you need to "grow" a solution to a puzzle by placing the right objects in the right order. Mostly guesswork, but heck it's fun.
Holy balls, has anyone tried this? (http://www.eyezmaze.com/eyezblog_en/blog/2005/10/movie_puzzle_ver0.html#monster) Try it on hard.
Evil that game is cool. Quite a illusion. I am going to try hard
If it hasn't been suggested already, I would like to bring up VVVVVV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/TerryCavanagh/vvvvvv-demo
It's a nifty little game where you can walk on the floor and ceiling and jump back and forth. You have to dodge obstacles to move forward.

Wow, this is amazing! I'll be buying the full game.
I saw the IGF entry video for VVVVVV and thought it looked pretty cool, but to play it is something else.
