I would like to try to create some music for my games and I would just like to know if there is some special software you need to buy or does anyone know any free downloadable music composers,
preferably .mp3 or .midi

also I dont have a microphone so i would need some software that doesn't require a microphone

I'm not exactly a pro composer, I started doing music on my computer about a year ago, but I think I might be able to help.

You need a free and easy program for your comp. Midi maker you can download for free, it's a trial, but you can use all the features that are in the real version 50 times. It's probably the easiest composing program on net, on the downside the program got some limits, but it will sure dew for a start.

Good luck!

This thread from another forum, might prove useful to you. There are other threads also in this forum that contain information about free music programs.

Anvil Studio: Just as easy to use as Midi Maker, but 10x better!

PowerTab is free, and pretty flexible. You use the keyboard mostly, but this program is pretty nice.

Paper Carnival

I use Guitar Pro, but it's not free. It's probably your best midi program choice if you are a guitarist though.

Linked because it'd probably breaks someones tables. :P

FL Studio series for me! And sometimes various trackers for various platforms until I get frustrated and give up.

It's not? uh oh... well... anyway

I use my guitar to compose... (occasionally my mouth organ)

and then I struggle with GP for a while trying to write them on notes but realise everything has to be done with tabs to make it properly work, and then it destroys the feeling of the song. By that time I'm so frustrated I decide either to throw the song into carbage or write it down on notes, on paper... Or as it happens sometimes, my brother writes it down on GP, he's one of those who master the program, even though he plays the bass.

OH, and I was introduced to Midi maestro, but it didn't work at all, so I will not suggest that.

FSi++

I use Scream Tracker. It's old, it's free and you'll need some samples to begin with.
Just love rusty software.

I use Sibelius 3, soon to be upgraded to Sibelius 4. Once upon a time I used Fast Tracker II, but now I don't really use trackers so much, except for Famitracker because I like those NES-like sounds. I do my recording with Audacity, but I'll soon save up some money and buy something a little more useful.

I use a washboard and a cigar box guitar.

.. and that little honker.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.
