So uhm, I have a silly problem.
Some time ago I happened to copy ACDOS.EXE on my desktop. It came with an old version of AGS, from back in 2001, I think. Now I can't get rid of it! Windows XP claims that some process is using it, but I can't see what could it be. I've tried booting the computer in safe mode and deleting the file in there, but no luck.
It's nothing really serious, just a bit annoying because I'd like to clean my desktop a bit. :P
Or maybe it was CJ's experimental version of AGS that cannot be deleted once it's installed!
I had the same problem a while ago, only with a different file.
Didn't find a solution :(
time heals all the wounds as they say. I've had the same problem many times. Wait for few months, and with good luck you'll be able to delete it then. Sometimes happens that it disappears by itself. If there's a quicker cure, I don't know it, but I'd like to...
That happened to me before, I was able to delete it the next time I restarted my computer.
Try closing ags, then deleting it.
Start -> Run -> type 'cmd', ms-dos yourself onto the desktop and try 'del acdos.exe'... it works on some cases.
Try formatting your HD
Or throwing the HDD out of the window.
This is weird.. I used to have some kind of spyware that couldn't be deleted, I had to go to the processes to end it there first. But I assume you already checked out the active processes.
boot up in safemode. incase that don't work, you could always try some force delete software (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/countit.asp?fid=25367&fileidx=1). I have some force-uninstall programs. Sometimes things go real bad and can't even be uninstalled :P
for force delete:
"Have you ever tried to delete a file or folder, only to get a Windows error message saying no can do? Maybe you're having a bad hair day, but more likely the file is being used by a program. Try downloading ForceDel, a utility that works with all Windows versions to force delete the stubborn file. The program runs from a DOS command window (click Start, Run, and type "cmd"). Enter forcedel filename to give the file the boot for good."
Problem... solved!
With Haddas' link and Hajo's knowledge I managed to delete the file. Hooray for them!
