Fallout Online

I know there's some Fallout fans in here and they might not know of this, it's an mmo by some russian guys. It uses the graphics from Fallout 2 and there's an open beta test going on. I've been playing it for a week or so and it's pretty fun. There's only a couple of small quests but there are professions and item crafting. There are two games using the engine:

Fallout: The Life After (in both russian and english, but it seems a lot of npcs only talk russian)
Fallout: 2238 (only in english)

Each game has it's own server, you can find me on 2238, name is "upheaval"

PS even if you've played the old fallout games, you should at least take a look at the mining/crafting part of the manual because some things don't work as you would expect. Also, be prepared to die and loose your stuff, it can happen often in the wasteland.

After playing this I can't really recommend it.  Pking is absolutely rife in the game (I've been chased and killed numerous times...and that was in towns), and after visiting the irc channel and being ignored by at least one of the games' designers (he was busily discussing new guns to add to the game because it's important for the pkers to have more to kill with) when I brought up the fact that new players are being butchered at the start points by higher level players (I even had screenshots) I decided that they really don't want this to be a successful project at all and are just pissing about with a sandbox game.  Also, several of the designer comments on No Mutants Allowed make it clear that they actually support the pk heavy atmosphere (I believe this is because they've been too lazy to make many of the quests work, so all people can really do is craft a few things and kill each other or enemies).  Now I don't mind pking as such, but it's absolute and total bullshit to have the starting zones and every single town completely open to spawn camping and pking.  By that token they have already doomed their project to utter failure.

Actually, pking was even worse before, just this week i think they added ghoul guards at the respawning places and also weapons and armour now become damaged when dying. They are working pretty hard i think because i've seen a lot of small changes like that in my week of playing. Also, i've heard they are actively adding new quests, but yeah, there's really few of them right now.

EDIT:

I've seen plenty of posts on NMA about how pking is out of control and i do hope the developers will tone it down. There were a few good suggestions for putting an end to exit grid camping and maybe something like that will be implemented. It's really weird if they are adding new weapons, fallout 2 had plenty.

It's ok if you like mmorpg, I guess...I still enjoyed Fallout 2 much more since I had some aim while playing (not only boosting your skills and becoming the thoughest mofo). I created an account, got shot in the leg the next second and remained crippled even after respawning. I heard they've fixed that but I don't really have any intentions to get into it anyway.
It's also beta version and everything gets wiped from time to time so you may play it for several days nonstop instead of hanging out or something and the next thing you know your character's gone
