Problems with playing HD videos on Windows 7

Hey, folks,

since I switched from Vista to 7, I encounter problems with playing HD videos (.ts-files). They ran smoothly on Windows Media Player 11, and they run smoothly on the new WMP 12, but strangely, WMP 12 doesn't recognize the different audio tracks anymore. It just says there's one, and that's it. Both VLC and mplayer seem to recognize all of the audio tracks, however they are not powerful enough to run 1080p videos smoothly. I tried the Media Player Classic, which is able to play different audio tracks, but it's very unstable and doesn't work too well. The DivX player gets the video right, but doesn't recognize the different audio tracks, too. So in the end, every player that gets the audio, doesn't get the video, and vica versa.

I tried installing all the codecs there are, but none seems to solve this issue.

Does anyone of you encounter similar problems? Any ideas on how I could solve this problem? Any other players to test? Thanks a lot!

cheers

Very strange, since in my experience both VLC and Media Player Classic run more smoothly and are more stable than any WMP version.

I've also found that VLC renders 1080p movies just fine.

Not sure about this specific issue but I have had some weird problems with random, small things in Windows 7 (build 7264 RC).  I've been meaning to get the final release to see if it fixes my problems with incoming voice not working on programs like Tokbox and intermittent issues with it not detecting microphones/headsets.  If you have one of the developer builds (like I do) it could be worth it to upgrade.

I have the regular Windows 7 Home Premium, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Strangely, VLC sucks at playing 1080p. Do you guys use a special codec? For me, it's running laggy and stuttering all the time, but CPU and GPU should be good enough to handle it.

What baffles me is that some players just don't see the AC3 tracks anymore, even if they're definitely there.

EDIT: Ah, just found a solution. Seems I can change the audio tracks via Haali Media Splitter. Hm, shouldn't have been THAT complicated.

Okay, this topics free to rant about the new WMP 12, Windows 7 etc. :D

I have a copy of Windows 7 that I downloaded and still need to try out. I seem to have a ton of issues with this relatively-new computer and Windows Vista... wireless internet will shut off if I download too much too fast (e.g. LimeWire, things like DownThemAll or FlashGot) and I have to restart it to work again... Firefox and Chrome both have issues that I can never reproduce on other computers... maybe a new OS will help.

Yes, I have that, too. If I download too fast, Windows shuts off the LAN connection, and I don't even have wireless. I hate it. Some times it doesn't happen, and I can download freely, but other times I happens like every two minutes. ARGH!

Installing Windows 7 seemed to do the trick. Might've been an issue with Vista then. LimeWire works, and I'm sure DTA/FlashGot will too.
