Need help with a sketch.

Hi guys, I was just wondering if someone could help me with a hand drawn sketch. I'm really not good at drawing (as you can see lol) but did a rough sketch of this for the main character to my game.

I had to crudely paste his head from a previous sketch because I just couldn't draw the face again how I wanted it. This is how we want him to look but the only problem is I can't seem to draw the head again with other expressions.



I was wondering if anyone could possibly do me a quick sketch of the character but with a more neurtal/happier facial expression? Or give me some tips on how to draw him more effectively (btw I know the picture is awful lol)

Very! Short! Legs! Cartoon characters don't need to stick to the old "seven heads make a body height" rule, but it still looks pretty strange. It might be the jacket that causes the effect, but I'd really try to move his beltline up a good deal.

try making the hands more normal and relaxed, or maybe make them closed. turn a little the hands too, to look like the character is facing left, because this way it looks the head is facing left and his body is facing down.

I have to sound bad, but you have to ditch it. The face is actually having quite a lot of potential and seems to have been given some effort, the body however is out of place and not of the same quality. Actually wrong, don't ditch it, just try a redraw of the body. Hope I helped somehow.

Thanks man. I really cannot draw it tbh I've been trying all night that's why I wondered if anyone would be as kind as to help quickly. I'm going to keep trying but I may need to get someone else to do it lol.

Are those backgrounds in your signature drawn by you? Cause if they are, you can draw. Hell even if they're not, you can learn to draw..

J - Liesten, when you build a game development team and you aren't the artist then concentrate on other aspects of the game. You can however give this drawing to the leading artist as a reference so he/she can draw him instead. Putting this character on the neat backgrounds you have would be..well..strange

Thanks dualnames, I wish they were drawn by me lol but that would be my good friend that designs them.

Yeah thanks space paw, the only problem is that he's not very good at drawing people (sounds odd I know when he can draw great backgrounds). The only people he can draw well is like anime which we really don't want. That's why I'm hoping I could maybe recruit someone on here lol.

lol Sorry, but when I looked at his head I thought: "Boy, with that kind of ears I'll be looking angry too."
Even as a sketch it doesn't look like the same style your backgrounds are drawn in.
Btw in one tutorial (look at the Tutorial-thread) I read a very good way to draw people by using a photo. Well, since you want a more cartoony style, I'll suggest to you to use some cartoon character (from some popular cartoon) that will fit "your" backgrounds. In order to make it your own and not just a copy-paste-thing, after pixelizing it, you can change a couple of things but still have to stick to the style of your backgrounds. I started using this method since the only way I can draw is with a pencil and a piece of paper (I'm also scared of colors ). It works quite well and is easy to use. At least that's a good start for developing your skills.

Thanks man that's a great help. I've been trying all week still to no avail. I'm still searching. Maybe there's some artists forums I  could ask help on.
