I am working on a little project. I made a room but I don't know if it's any good.
What do you think. Should I fix anything?
Just as a side note. I used my room as a model. Everithing looks almoast the same as in my room.

The main problem as I see it (which is almost always the case) is the lack of perspective discipline!

It's pretty good, but too many lines don't follow perspective:

- green lines are perspective lines
- blue circles are trouble spots (there are more, but these I noticed most!)
- the computer monitor shelf, and the top shelf of the bookcase need the most attention.

The layout is good, if you just make the perspective corrections it'll be a great bg!Ã,  I would suggest adding some contrast to the walls (maybe shading one or two a little darker) to seperate them.

Hope it helps!

Bombadil

I think it looks very good, but you should follow Darth's suggestions.
Maybe I'd rise the bed a bit because I think it's a bit low.

btw, do you really have 2 computers in your room?

Thanks for the tip darth. I'll be shure to remember to pay more atention to the perspective in the next background. I'll fix this one as soon as I can. I hawe only one question. What are the green lines for?

Bombadil:
em...
Yes I do but the one on the right is an old 166Mhz pentium. I only kept it becouse I want to transform it in to a server one day. But something's wrong with the internet conection. So I use it for playing old games that don't run on win XP  :P

The green lines are to show you where the perspective vanishes ... the vanishing point.

I used the two ceiling lines to determine the room's vanishing point and then connected a few of the room's objects to that vp to show you where the perspective has gone a little off.

That's the spirit!

That's exactly what i do. I have two pcs in my room, one laptop and one really old one which i use for the same purpose...

The room is actually quite nice, it's just your choice of wood colors, etc which bug me.
Are your walls also really that blank? (and PLEASE don't put cracks, that's so cliche!)

Mats Berglinn

Doesn't your room have a ceiling lamp or posters on the walls?

HillBilly

I think it's a ceiling lamp there. And there is one wall we can't see, so maybe he has some there.

viktor

Well actualy I colect bajsball caps. I hawe them on the left wall. On that wall that we can't see is a window. But yeah. My room is pretty empty if we don't count the mess :P

Two? I currently have FOUR computers in my room. Two desktops and two laptops. Of course, that's mainly because my room has become a dumping ground for all my old stuff. It does make the desk quite crowded, though.

Some things have shadows, others don't. Be consistent. Other than the glaring perspective problems, it looks spiffy.

well,i would like to get a lagtop where i can put in DOS but what kind/type of lagtop do you recommend for that job?

PS

i own 3 computers, and none of them have boxes around :p

You're getting better!

Well. I remember my first(?) bg posted at AGSforums...
It was same quality, looked much the same too.
And was about my room. Even had same problems.

Well, I tried to add some variety to your bg and ended up with this...

I kept same false perspective, because this was not exactly what I wanted to work on.

* I added some texture to the closet
* Changed/added shading here and there
* Added some noise to floor and walls to give them more life
* Tried to reflect whole room on the lamp (failed, too low opacity, but tech worked anyway)
* Added some lousy shadows just to see how much detail they add.
   conclusion: They add a lot!
* Tried to play with this and that. Since you probably scaled the image for this thread - pixels are double size - modification of some things, like blanket and door didn't turn out very well and I'm too lazy to spend much more time on them, but yeah, few more shading tones would make picture better, and that's what I needed to check.

Compare the original with the edit, Viktor.
Even such a lousy edit with so tiny improvements in coloring changed whole thing, so there's the point - even picture is pretty, coloring does the trick.
Correct the perspective and then explore the palette, there's hundreds of cool things you can do with a simple background if coloring and shading them well.

Looks great but I'm afraid it dosn't realy fit with the stile of the game. Anyway. I'm going to hawe to put this game on hold I'm working on some other projects at this time. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I realy apreciate it.
