Character Concepts

Hello everybody!

I 've been thinking about making a game of my own, and at one point I stopped thinkin' and started doin'...
And sketchin'!

Here's the result for my first characters (NPC, probably)

They're supposed to be a rock band.
Does anyone have any ideas as how to rock 'em up? How can I improve them?

Before you bring it up, I have been thinking about tattoos, and I'm currently designing them.

depending of what do you hear by rock :p

bon jovi was long hard, red lipstick and girly clothes in the 80's

Mettalica was a bit more hairy, with beards and mustaches.

Cradle of filth is all painted in white and black ( KiSS too :p )

well, modern rock band just look "normal", so I guess you sketches are okay !

Those are pretty cool.
I can't see them all belonging to the same band though... #2 and #3 would have creative differences.
The colouring is a bit "airbrushy" on the trousers - they look quite plastic. It works for #1 and possibly #3 but the rest could do with some roughing up.
To rock them up a bit... instruments?

These look fantastic as concepts. I would strongly suggest against attempting anything of this quality for animated sprites though, unless you reduced color/shading to make them more like cartoons. The only thing I would suggest is correcting the guy with the big arms. They are much too large for his torso size and his right forearm is too narrow, making his hand too small. The guy on the right almost has a Doonesbury face.

I'm looking for something Guns n' Roses-like, a bunch of hard rocking wiseguys who do a lot of freaky stuff. I drew these listening to Slash's Snakepit, actually.

Well, I'm still trying to figure that out... For one thing, I'm planning to do them in 3D, but on the other hand, 3D never looks as cool as 2D (MI3 compared to MI4 proves my point, I guess). But then animating 2D can be a lot of tedious work... And I get a worse headache from my lighttable then I do from a keg of beer (drinking or just getting it slammed in the face...).
I'll flip a coin about that matter.

I was thinking about that, but I wanted to give them some physical differences referring to the instrument they're playing. (From left to right: bass, guitar, guitar, drums, vocals...) The guy you're referring to would be the drummer, hence his oversized arms. As for hands, he doesn't need them as big as guitarists, so I made 'em (too) small.

Probably, but he's got something against surgery. Gossip says it's got something to do with his secret relationship with Cher. He hasn't commented yet on that subject.
Other than that, I would agree.

I also realised that the colors just ain't right... (The combination of the clothes, that is) But you'll have to excuse me, I'm colourblind. But I know all RGB coordinates by heart!! 8)

That guitar needs to be way larger. And as far as tattoos go, you could tattoo him with the logo of his band etc or search for images of cool tattoos

Yeah. If only I could think of a decent band name, it would help finding a logo too. Right now, it's all blank.

I would imagine that the tattoos wouldn't all be band related.
I was just in a tattoo parlour last night - you could drop in to one for some ideas. The weirdest tattoo I saw was an alien baby solving a rubik's cube. Or you could just take some LSD and start doodling.
