Here's the first background from the game I'm working on.

Something is wrong with that red door and the window above it. It just doesn't seem to match the rest of my image but I'm not sure how to fix it. I'm also not sure what else I should include in the image.

Edit: Whoops! I guess posting the image would help...

The whole background lacks perspective. And it looks abit weird with some bumpy lines and some straight.

Nice bg otherwise :)

Lacks perspective? But I've got slanted lines! Hahaha...

Oh well. I'm just trying to make some functional backgrounds so I can finish my first game. I'd love to be able to make amazing backgrounds so everyone would play my game, but I keep tryin' and tryin' and I just can't seem to get it right.

I like games about rednecks! :D

About the bg: Overall it looks nice. I think that there should be some green plants growing in the sand. And maybe you should add a window on the house.

I would make the garage door opened, and an edge of a pickup-truck seen in it. But it's only my opinion.

I ain't really bothered by the lack of perspective.. i dont even see the lack of perspective tbh.. but perspective ain't my thing..

Scottdoom.. you are very active with making backgrounds and sprites, I think you are doing a really good job.. I really can see major improvements every time you post a new image.. you seem to still be searching for the style you aim for..

Tho.. I really dig the background, especially the caravan, don't think you can't make great backgrounds.. a game with backgrounds like these (+just a little more detail) are great enough for a good game.. a good storyline and puzzles are way more important to make it a good game, really.. your backgrounds are quite impressive imo, but everyone has an opinion of its own..

If I would give improvement points for this bg.. i would say:
-make the horizon a little lower, for some reason Im sure it would look better
-the wheel marks outside the garage seem to be turning a bit weird.. I would make them in a straight line from the garage outside the screen
-Shadow of the caravan áin't right..
-Improve details of the front door of the house
-Make the inside of a garage.. don't use yellow for inside, perhaps brown is better.. a garage is supposed to be a little dirty.. maybe make one part of a car stickin out the garage a bit.. or easier; just but around some toolsets..
-The window above the front door is not right, however, this same style at the caravan does look right.. so only change the window above the front door..

Well the garage door is shown half-way closed just to clarify. I made an edit where I changed the color of to grey. I also added an outside lamp hanging off the wall and put an electric cord coming out from behind the TV. Other than that I'm happy with it and I'm just trying to make sure I can finish this game (hopefully in a month or two).

I've already got another background done and I'm working on a fourth. I think there'll be maybe 10 or so backgrounds in total so I want to get them all done so I can start scripting.

I might make a unique background soon so that I can make a custom GUI and show it off.

Thats great mate.. I like it too, but why post it on the Critics Lounge if you are already happy with it? All that efford of mine to find improvements and you are already happyÃ,  ;D

Anyways.. keep up the good work!

Tho now Im looking to it longer.. I really think you should make, like gameboy already mentioned.. a part of a truck or car or something out of the garage.. it will really look better..
And how is it possible to have dirt wheel spurs when the ground is so clean.. that doesnt work for me too..

^ it can't be from hitting the brakes.. cause then it coudnt be not-straight (unless ABS but then you should see blocks in it)..
so or.. make the spurs dissapear.. or make the overall ground more dirty..

I did a paint-over to show a couple points I have on it.

- I added/changed the detail on the door and window
- I played with the pixels on the metal beams holding the canopy thingy up

I think that's about it. You have a great style and I look forward to seeing this in a game.

I think the back of the camper needs more shape

I've fixed the perspective of the door & window which was pretty off compared to the rest of the building:
