4. We forgo the document files and emails and just use the forum thread, like normal people. At the beginning, the thread-starter sets out the genre, the word limit per post, and how many posts until the story ends, and how many posts are allowed per writer (for example: modern fantasy, 500 words maximum per post, ends on the 25th post, one post per person).

That's fine except one thing: someone might be faster in writing than you are (e.g. post his view on that part of the story, which might be different from one of yours).

True enough. It would be a bitch to write a full 500 words, only to have the red warning message pop up.

Maybe if you 'reserve' the spot first, then immediately edit it with your addition it would help that though.
