basically you have to use a brush 1 pixel high and 2 pixels wide.
or you could create your image and resize it so it's 200% wider but the same height (like if you make a 16x16 sprite resize it so it's 32x16, that will give you double wide pixels)

The evil pilgrim with a hayforkthingy.

Turkey with evil pilgrim-stuffing.

Indian-camoflaged pilgrim. With an eyepatch...

Magical firestick!

The boss! Magical short-sleeved monk!

Powerup no.1 The peacepipe!

Powerup no. 2 The headband. Gives the player an extra life.

And last, but not least! The hero, Savage Bob[/img]

I hope i did it right now. Dont know much about thanksgiving, being non-american, but think i got it right ;D Spent all day making this, so you better like it!!! ;D :P Not going to animate anything, due to lack of skills.

vict0r, unfortunately those sprites don't meet the rules. I hope there's still time for you to edit those, as they are really nice and the sprite jam's gonna end today.

You've used a doublewide brush, but doublewide pixels means that in every line, pixels 1&2 must have the same color, then pixels 3&4, then 5&6 and so on.

Just pixel-resize the sprites to 16x32, then back to 32x32.

I've never really had a proper go at sprites before and this looked fun, so here's my effort:

The Main Character

Our Pilgrim Hero

The Pitchfork Powerup

The Flaming Turkey Powerup

The Bad Guys

The Angry Native American

Pumpkin Soldier

The Pumpkin King Boss

Turkey Carcass

Turkey Soldier

The Braveheart Turkey Boss (as seen in South Park!)

All sprites at 32x32px

err? didnt really get that :-\

You haven't made all pixels double pixels. there are still some single ones in those images. take the gloria above the monks head e.g,

Ubel

Let's put it like this:

The first one is not using double-wide pixels. The second one is.

Nice entries all around, and hopefully someone will put them to use in a game!

Steve- You did a great job on your entry and it adhered perfectly to the rules.

buloght- Inventive take on turkey mania!  I like the ship designs, though you'd have to explicitly state this was a thanksgiving-based game for people to know.

Dan- You make me sad :).

rharpe- Very nice animation, but you didn't follow the rules!

Boyd- The only entry that made me laugh, and certainly the winner of a possible futuristic game involving an old boxer and zombies.  I can't really see the connection to thanksgiving though, and with the other entries I have to be tough.

vict0r- These looked promising but aren't in the correct format.

munchiez- A very impressive first entry.  The animations look nice, the designs while at times similar to Steve's are different in their own way, and I like the power ups!

So who is the winner?  As this is munchiez' first go at the sprite jam and did such a good job, munchiez wins!  Bear in mind it is your job to come up with a new topic for the sprite jam and start it.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw! :P I just finished doing them the right way! (i am sure this time ;D) Well... Whatever :) Grats munchiez!

Why do the skateboard wheels move?

so that the skateboard may traverse flat terrain with less effort than if the wheels did not move...
also, if you look at many old games which involve things with wheels they may sometimes move in seemingly strange ways until you take into account the limitations faced by games programmers and sprite technicians in those magic days before unlimited colour palettes and 3D acceleration to which we modern gamers owe many thanks.

These are really nice sprites, but Thanksgiving was when the native Americans helped the colony so why are they the enemies?

munchiez

Thanks guys! I'll get a new topic started soon. :)

Zayanm: I used the native American as a bad guy because I'm British and don't know a lot about Thanksgiving. I always thought the natives didn't like the new settlers 'invading' their turf. :(
