Slow moving character

No matter how I change the speed of the character he walks very slowly. I have a Nvidia card and a pretty good rig. I am using 800 X 400 and 16 bit colour. Any tips, I don't want to drop the screen size any lower.

I'm not very certain about this;

Do you have the "Movement linked to Animation" box checked? ; If so, then your limiting factor could be the character's "Animation Speed".
