Title: Fancy text display border? (Solved, user error)
Post by: HyperAnimated on Wed 11/11/2020 04:07:55
Something I've never figured out, please...

Every time I try to replace the Display text GUI borders and corners with my own graphics, they go all out of alignment instead of lining up as a box with corners.

Can the border edges only be a tiny repeatable segment? Will fancier lines work? And why do my alpha channel transparency corner images always float out away from the box?

Thanks for your help!

Please show us the sprites you're using. AFAIK, the important thing is that they line up on the inside.

Yes, yes, no idea.

Ahh, I played with it and realized my mistake.

I was trying to use angled corners - like a 36x36 pixel / instead of like the little square default corner.  It kept displaying from the corner closest to the text box, instead of offsetting to overlay the text box itself.

I didn't think about how the engine wouldn't know how to magically line up unusual graphics for me.

Sorry, I get it now!  Thanks!

For reference, here's an example image showing what the sprites may look like:
