I like modern/futuristic (Fallout), steampunk (Arcanum), and a mix of everything (Septerra Core). I haven't played much science fiction RPGs but I think I would like them very much.

Here are some of my favorite RPGs:
Quest for Glory, Silver, Fallout, Planescape: torment, Rage of Mages, Mass Effect, KotOR, Baldur's gates.

I really like the RPG Maker games so I'm more into the 2D style (Dhux's Scar and Rainblood blew my mind). I don't like much the RPG's of today that mix Halo with role playing. I will love to play Skyrim btw.

In general I prefer action-RPGs--your Secret of Manas, your Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliances, your Skyrims. In my old age (I'm 26), I don't really have the patience for turn-based combat anymore (though FFIV Complete's auto-battle feature has been a godsend in that regard).

That's weird. In my old age (27) I don't have patience for real-time RPG combat anymore.

Actually I rarely did - usually it's such a boring click-fest, slower and messier than a good turn-based system. Combat in RPGs is generally awfully boring anyway.

Hah! See, I'm the opposite--that's how I tend to view turn-based combat, as a boring "mash A until it's over" fest. I can usually get into the strategy of it for boss battles, but I generally don't have the patience or interest to do that for every random encounter that occurs for every three seconds of walking.
