Hope I put it in the right forum :)
I went through my games collection and decided I wanted to play KQ6 again. I have the CD version for windows. I've been trying for a while to get it running, and eventually it worked. It runs using VDMS, but when I change the cursor, the graphic wont update. So When I change to examine-mode, it still shows the walk-mode cursor for example (though the action will change to examine). I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this, since it's a bit annoying.
Thanks in advance,
Def
Are you sure there isn't a DOS version on the CD. DOS often works without any tinkering. That's all I know of. Did you try the compatibility mode in the program options?
I just went through this whole ordeal about a month ago. I couldn't figure out anyway to change the cursor except one, and it's not much of a solution. Run the game in a window, then when you change your curso, bring your mouse out of the window, then abck in. It should have changed.
Personally, I prefer the DOS version to the windows version anyday, since it runs in the correct resolution (The Windows one is stretched vertically slightly), plus has the nice looking cursors. Also there are a few bugs in the windows version, such as Cassima's responses to what Alexander sends her not playing sometimes.
The DOS version runs great in DOSBox, except for the opening which is slightly flawed. The only reason to play the windows version would be for the hi-res dialog portraits, which clash with the lower-res graphics, in my opinion.
onethink I don't like in kq6 windows, is that there is no sound AND text option, I like both IMHO
How silly I have been, I did see the sierra.exe dos executable, but when I ran it it gave me a vga driver error so I though it wasn't working because of some missing files for the DOS version or whatever. But when I ran the setup and changed the soundcard from Roland to Soundblaster it did run. I just never tried to run it again after running the setup. Thanks :)
