I know CJ used to be able to de-compile games.. But i think when he released WinRoomedit, he took that function away for some reason..

So I'm not sure if he still can or not....

I think that function is not included in ags because then you could open other people's games and steal from them.

But i guess CJ could de-compile data from a compiled game.

You'll find out tomorrow!

No.. You were never able to do it from the released engine.. he had some tool he programmed.  But I think the way the Win version writes the files, he can't decompile them

Right. The old DOS roomedit used to save the uncompiled scripts in the compiled games, but Chris removed those so people couldn't reverse-engineer the games..

What data did you lose? Was it just scripts and room files, or did you lose backups of your graphics too?

Well, i can only say from this, that you now learned, to always make backups! Or take better care of your pc.... ;) I'm sorry for you, but it seems like you need to start all over, or start a new project.

Well, some parts of the game can still be retrieved (eg. the graphics) because obviously since the game can display them, they are readable and can be extracted with the right tool. (which yes I have but no you can't have it).

The scripts however are no longer saved into the compiled game (because the editor compiles them into object code), so it is impossible to recover your global script, script header, etc from a compiled game.

Well, as I say I can recover the graphics for you (sprites and backgrounds) and any sound/music files, but not much further than that I'm afraid.

I was wondering.. does this reverse-engineering mean the same thing I did to steal speaker music notes form old DOS-based textgames? ie. *read* them?
