About this game
Larry Vales is an officer in the traffic patrol of Stagnant, Tennessee. Experimentation in the field of parking enforcement has been in full-force for years now, but just recently has local insane scientist Professor Semprini unveiled the new Lovely Rita 4200 Parking Enforcement Cyborg. Unfortunately it has gone slightly berserk and has been sentencing citizens to death for even the most minor traffic violations.AGS Awards Wins

Since Larry Vales first appeared there have been a ton of AGs classics exploting the progress and new discoveries of AGs capabilities. Therefore, this early game felt a little underwhelming. Its like Star Wars. I didn't grow up with it like all my friends did, I only saw it for the first time when I was about 20. Therefore I don't have the nostalgic benefit and it appeared quite dull to me. Likewise, I'm sure if I had played Larry Vales when it first came out I would hold it dear to my heart. Instead I kept focusing on its shortcoming.
Still, there's plenty to recommend Larry Vales. The irreverent sense of humour, amusing contemporary references and old style Sierra graphics are all very cool. The award this game won for best player character was also deserved. Larry Vales is a likeable hero whose achievements are sadly never recognised.
The main downside for me was the puzzles. They mostly felt uninspired and predictable, sometimes even slightly illogical. If it hadn't been for the excellent script I would likely have found little to redeem this game. Sadly, even the script results to one childish gay gag.
I really wanted to love Larry Vales as much as everyone else. Sadly, it compared unfavourably to many other AGs games I have played and while it is likely that many of them were directly influenced by Larry Vales, I still can't muster up that much enthusiasm for this game
The most enjoyable AGS advenutre so far...
